Correction: AWM most recently hosted the event in Shanghai with Bilibili Macro Link World this past weekend.
More info: Last year, there were some light AWM name dropping during the 3 divas show last year at Anime NYC. |

too bad it's like the Anisong singers of yesteryear. why are the singers people that were big 5 years ago, give me some of the modern anisong singers. they are all C-list anisong singers.
Morning Musume, the idol group that AKB48 killed Hironobu Kagayama, better in Jam Project than solo Hiroshi Kitadani, see above Luna Haruna, TRUE, and Konomi Suzuki: token female high pitch anisong singers who all sing similar songs. Shoko Nakagawa is maybe B-list All the popular bands never come and we get the rejects. |

I guess I'll be canceling my plans for Otakon this year and go to ANYC instead. I'm really disappointed in Otakon this year, they have nothing interesting in terms of musicians or bands. In fact they have no musicians or bands this year except some Final Fantasy symphony concert which sounds boring tbh
Anyways, I'm looking forward to more announcements in the coming weeks

It’s kind of a relief seeing that AWM is still interested in making appearances other than AX: Otakon last year and Anime NYC this year. It’s bad for fandom as a whole if AX sucks all the air out of the room by getting all the good events.
I so hope that someday AWM willl come to Anime Central, which has a proper theater just down the street from the con (the Rosemont Theater) and has used it in the past for concerts by Kalafina and SCANDAL. This sort of concert is much better in a nice venue (like the Microsoft Theater near AX) rather than being in just a big ballroom. |

They've got that Sunday act. It happens time to time Otakon gets guests that aren't everyone's cup of tea. Not everybody even knows what a shamisen is, not everybody likes ska, not everybody likes Korean mobile games or string ensembles, but there are people who do, and all the guests I just referenced have totally worked out for Otakon or certainly will get attention at Otakon. You might not dig the FF concert, but there are people really stoked to hear that performance and see Uematsu. And even if the musical guests are a bust to you, there's plenty of other things to do. If you can do both Otakon and ANYC, there's no reason not to do both.
YMMV I guess but they had me at Hironobu Kageyama. With the exception of Anime Boston, the individual members of JAM Project seldom have the opportunity to do solo songs besides the one song each that everybody there knows (Cha-la Head-Cha-La, We Are, etc.).
They've done things in Shanghai and Taipei, too. All comes down to what AWM and artist management want to do, but AX sure gets the biggest concerts by virtue of being closer to Tokyo than New York and DC. |

This is the first AWM in NYC, so this guest list is already pretty solid for an East Coast show, probably 8 different artists--4 more than Otakon's AWM last year. Even if that's counting Dani and Kagechan separately lol.
I want to gripe about Otakon--it really does feel the con sometimes bring over guests just because, and the guests don't engage with a lot of the fans who would spring for an AWM, for example. I understand sometimes, this is a good thing to bring a Shamisen act or whatever. But surely Otakon can do a better job balancing these demands. Personally I enjoyed Draft King and Yoshida Bros (especially these guys) and all that, but this Final Fantasy stuff turns me off because Roth, Nobu & crew have extensively toured the Northeast for many years. It's not worth Otakon's time to have them play there yet again, let alone my con time to go see them (for the 3rd? time?). I'd rather have something niche and educational and hard to see lol. More importantly, you are right, there's plenty of other things to do. Like go to a cheaper, closer con. There are tons of anime cons in the region now compared to 10 years ago. Otakon gotta step up. In ANYC's case, it's also a better con just from having AWM this year. If Otakon wants to retain that NYC area demo it has to do a better job. |

But Hammerstein ballroom has a theater with a balcony, I saw Boruto in that theater at nycc it was pretty nice. Oh well. |

With the exception of Morning Musume, all the others have appeared in both Animax Musix and Animelo Summer Live in the past 5 years. Top tier seiyuu tend not to be able to travel away from Japan much. Most if not all of the anime singers and musicians who I have seen live put their all into their performances - whether they are singing for an audience of 27,000 or 14. If any singers that you like are announced for this event, try to support them and the event. |

If you didn't know Kitadani were pushing 50 (he'll be 50 come this performance), that Kageyama were pushing 60, you'd have no idea. |

Akira Kushida is a bit older (Wikipedia and the ANN Encyclopedia disagree about the year of his birth by 2 years), as is Ichiro Mizuki but the oldest active anime singer would probably be Isao Sasaki. All 3 appeared in the centenary of anime song "Not an Angel, just a Dreamer" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pvg_2vrzESo From the senior women anime singers, Yuri Kasahara (age not public) was one of the guest vocalists for Yuki Kajiura Live vol.#14 held over the past month (still in top form) and her anime singing includes: Noir, .Hack//Liminality, Madlax, Le Portrait de Petite Cossette, Mai Otome, Elemental Gelade, Pandora Hearts, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Fate/Zero.
