Hikaru Utada Announces Vinyl Edition of 'Electricity Remixes,' Out July 9
TOKYO, JAPAN — With the release of their new single “Mine or Yours” scheduled for May 2, Hikaru Utada continues to make headlines following their highly anticipated return to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last weekend, the J-pop star's first appearance at the festival in three years.
Among their most talked-about songs of 2024, “Electricity”— originally featured on their best-of album released last year and performed regularly on tour as part of the show encore —has been reimagined by three internationally acclaimed producers: Karen Nyame KG, Arca, and salute. Their remixes have been steadily released digitally since February, showcasing the track's versatility across different soundscapes.
All three remixes plus the original version of “Electricity” will be available together for the first time on a limited-edition vinyl record, titled “Electricity Remixes”, set for release on July 9.
The remix series launched with London-based DJ/producer Karen Nyame KG, a pivotal figure in the UK's club and dance music scene. The second installment featured a remix by Arca, the Barcelona-based boundary-pushing artist and producer. Released alongside a collaborative portrait, the remix and imagery quickly became a hot topic online. The third remix came from salute, a Manchester-based DJ/producer renowned for remix work with artists such as Sam Smith and DJ Seinfeld, and widely recognized for his electrifying live performances.
