I have a BAD feeling about this.
I fear that Hollywood is going to seriously screw Dragonball up!
After all... if they can't make decent film adaptations of games (PC & console) then I dread to think what an American film based on an Anime would be like.
The American film industry must be really desperate if they're looking abroad for new ideas.

I'm kinda disappointed that people are taking this so seriously before it's even been filmed. You can't expect Dragonball to easily translate into the live action film medium. From there, I think people should just have an open mind and go in wanting to be entertained and to have fun or at least a good laugh.
Of course if people really are worried about how close it gets to DBZ, just wait until the premiere and see if Toriyama pulls a Le Guin or not.

Reality actors? Is this the best they could do with the supposed $100 million budget?

It will be based on the First Dragonball not DBZ. "His nemesis piccolo" sounds more like dragonball to me.

As long as they don't spend the whole movie charging moves...

I second that one.
I for one was never much of a fan of the original series, so I'm optimistic that I'll probably like the live-action version better.

To me, this should either be called Dragon Ball CW or Dragon Ball MTV with the way they're casting.
Too bad this could be a result of the Hollywood writer's strike.
I thought the cast of the live action Hokuto no Ken made much more sense, and seemed to have more fun to it. I mean, you can't go wrong with Rufio playing Batto.

yeah, because Hollywood has a great history of adaptations of video games like DOA, and Mario Brothers, surely they can do a good job on an anime films like DB.

Let me play Devil's Advocate here...
Putting the doubts aside, I think we're all going to be in for a surprise on Aug 15. I have hope for this film. I'm just worried about the musical composer... hmmmm; Hans Zimmer anyone?

I've never been a fan of the DB series, but the beginnings of this movie still sound.. scary to me. But mainly I just have to roll my eyes that of course the central male characters are going to be white and the love interest is Asian.. because of course in Hollywood, Asian males can never be heroes unless they're loveless martial artists. Ughh...
