Of all the people, the author of one of the most popular anime/manga series in the world is doing this stuff. I really hope he gets his act together. It will be a shame seeing his reputation being tarnished like this.

It could happen with anybody, just don't generalize. Like how people were posting that Made In Abyss author is a pedophile and should be investigated.

Ruronin Kenshin wasn't revelant in otakusphere for years. It used to be popular, but not anymore. Especially not after this stunt.

As a reminder for folks: different cultures have different values, and possession of child pornography is not the death sentence in Japan that it is in the USA. It wasn't even illegal until 2014, and even after it was illegal, people had a grace period of a year to turn it over to the police before they were prosecuted for it.
A fine of 200k yen is, indeed, a slap on the wrist, and also indicates that whatever he was actually in possession of was relatively minor even by Japanese standards. He was on hiatus during the investigation, but I expect he'll probably be back to work soon, and his Japanese readership will have quickly forgotten about this.

Implying? Technically they didn't say every, only "most," but otherwise that's exactly what they said. That's not an uncommon opinion, unfortunately, though I don't know what someone who believes that is doing on a site solely about anime and manga.
In a sense, ANN may be unintentionally encouraging that belief, since they only report on this kind of story if it has something to do with anime/manga, and other English-language news outlets aren't going to bother with foreign cases unless they're really extreme.

This, 100% this. The absurdity and sheer balls it takes to say thousands of people in the manga industry are pedophiles, that's one of the most insulting and baseless sweeping generalization claims I've heard in a long time. I'm honestly almost at a loss of words over the audacity here. Why on God's green earth would anyone say something that incredibly stupid? Is it because of the racist thing around the Internet where people just think and say that they believe Japanese are by majority pedophiles or at least okay with pedophila? That's always one of the most nonsense things I hear about Japan from people online and especially in the ANN community for whatever strange reason, so it wouldn't surprise me if that's the reasoning behind this.

Whatever the prosecuting mobs say, I wish Watsuki-sensei luck. This issue will probably linger forever, but I hope he can make use of this second chance to change himself for the better, for himself, for his wife/family and for his fans.

ANN is news related to the industry, so of course they will only report about cases related to the anime/manga world.

Whoa, didn't know about the Made in Abbys bit. It certainly wouldn't be surprising for me because the pedo undertones in that series were off-the charts (and apparently the manga is WAY more explicit in that sense). I'm pretty sure if that boner joke in the last episode had appeared in any given live action film both the director and the writer would have been prosecuted or something (and deservedly so).
