Damn, that's an all-star lineup. This really simple art style, if it is in fact representative of the show, is kind of weird, especially for a show with such a description. It doesn't seem like it fits, but I could be wrong.

Meh... not feeling this at all. I hope there isn't a new trend where characters not only look like little kids but drawn by little kids (just like Girl's last tour or even Made in Abyss)

That’s certainly quite the cute illustration. It would be cool to see how this show turns out with such an interesting staff behind it.

Seriously? I wasn’t going to say anything at first, but thinking that the characters in Made in Abyss looked like they were drawn by little kids is silly. So what if this show ends up being for a younger audience? You don’t have to watch it if you don’t like it nor do you need to complain about the art style if it’s not to your taste. Even if it has become a trend recently, as long as the shows are at least still entertaining to watch, what’s the big deal? It’s not like shows of other art styles will suddenly stop being made.

Why wouldn't I be entitled to give my opinion?? I've seen people here trash shows that I like over and over again so I don't see any reason not to give my opinion about this. Also, there's stuff aimed at kids that has wonderful, well drawn character desings (for example Heidi or Cinderella Monogatari).
You see, I became an anime fan because I love drawing and people who can actually draw so when I see this kind of lazy, barely drawn desings that look like they have been made by a kid it kinda pisses me off, specially considering the staff behind this project (otherwise I wouldn't have bothered checking this out).
Of course, this is just a key visual so things may look different in the future but I'm just not feeling optimistic at the momment... shall I apologise for that ? Rolling Eyes

I love this style. I hope they stick closely to it in the actual show. My most anticipated TV anime right now. Hoping for a family-friendly story with an earnest, cheerful, but overall serious tone, believable characters, good drama (preferably without heavy melodrama) and strong adventure vibes.

Well everyone has their own opinions about what they prefer but using Made in Abyss as an example of bad character designs is an odd choice. They aren't badly drawn they just have a certain art style and personally I think that art style worked well for that story.

@ Blackiris_ I personally think that it would be safe to say to at least be prepared to be a little disappointed on your melodrama request considering that Mari Okada is on board for this project. But always hope for the best.

You are. I never said you weren’t.

I never trashed any of the shows you brought up, so I don’t see why you’re bringing that in here. I personally don’t think Heidi is a great example to mention when trying to compare this show’s character designs to other kid-oriented anime.

That’s a petty reason to get pissed off at something in this day and age especially considering the fact that this show’s designs could very well be intentionally simple to fit the theme/story that they are going for here. Also, you implying that this show’s designs are done by someone who “can’t actually draw” is very rude to the people (not kids) who worked on this project.

All I was doing was criticizing what your reasons were for not being optimistic and why I thought this being a trend isn’t necessarily going to be a bad thing. I didn’t ask for you to apologize for anything and that emoji you put at the end of your response was simply not needed. I think you’re overreacting a bit here (You tend to do this sometimes when you comment here), so I hope that you at least understand why I’m saying all this to you. I have no intention of dragging this out anymore then it needs to, so I’m going to leave it at that and not comment on this matter anymore. Have a good rest of your day.
