This was bound to happen and shouldn't be much of a shock. I waited in line 8 hours on Launch Day at a Walmart to get a Switch. I picked up Zelda with it and after finishing all the main events (Master Sword, Shrines, Story, etc.) I sold my Switch a week later at $100 profit and I've been happy since.

The Switch is very much akin to the original 3DS. When playing Zelda you could see that the game was already pushing the limits of a already limited set of hardware. The Switch should be replaced in the next year with some upgrade much like the 3DS was. Unlike most brands, Nintendo has figured out that their fans are willing to repurchase their systems at least twice. Sony and Microsoft have caught on to this with their X Box One X and the PlayStation Pro. Sadly Nintendo isn't a victim here but a company that started a new trend in selling limited hardware and then reselling that hardware with higher specs down the road.

Doesn't seem right to emulate a current console to me.

That isn't a new thing for handhelds. IIRC there were GBA emulators very shortly after launch. DS, 3DS and PSP got them all during their shelf life, though compatibility and how long it took varied dramatically.

Emulating still-manufactured consoles is actually almost always the case. It was only with recent hard-to-emulate consoles like the PS3 that this changed. In fact, the GBA was emulated the year before it was launched based on tech specs, well enough to run Nintendo tech demos.

NES/Famicom release: 1983
First emulated: 1990 (Family Computer Emulator V0.35 for FM Towns)
NES/Famicom discontinued: 2003

SNES/SFC released: 1990
First emulated: 1994 (VSMC)
SNES/SFC discontinued: 2003

Genesis released: 1988
First emulated: 1994 (Megadrive)
Genesis discontinued: 1999

N64 released: 1996
First emulated: 1998 (Project Unreality)
N64 discontinued: 2003

Game Boy released: 1989
First emulated: 1995 (Virtual GameBoy)
Game Boy discontinued: 2003

Game Boy Advance released: 2001
First emulated: 2000 (GBAEmu, no, that date isn't a typo)
Game Boy discontinued: 2010

DS released: 2004
First emulated: 2004 (iDeaS)
DS discontinued: 2016

PS1 released: 1994
First emulated: 1998 (PSEmu)
PS1 discontinued: 2006

PS2 released: 2000
First emulated: 2002 (PCSX2)
PS2 discontinued: 2013

Fun fact: There was a point in time when Nintendo was manufacturing and selling the NES, SNES, N64, and GameCube all at the same time in one part of the world or another. Sony almost hit three generations, since the PS1 was only discontinued a few months before the PS3 launched.

Well, this was expected. Ain't nothing stopping emulations really.

Say, how did that meme from Archer go again?

"Do you want to get sued?

Because this is how you get sued"

Seriously, I'd expect this off of an underground emulation news source, not on ANN. You can't stop the emulation community, but this just might be the spark to set off fireworks in the underground. Great work, ANN. /sarcasm

I could swear I've heard that exact phrase long before Archer...
