Why dont they do that more than two times a year?? Everyone would gain more from that! More money to spend and gain! And you would even have fun!

There are various doujin events held throughout the year and at different locations around Japan, but none are as big as Comiket nor have as diverse of selection.

I was there last year. It was a very interesting experience, where I was one of those catching the first train of the day. I still had several hundred people ahead of me in line, of course, and it was so packed that you could not sit down in line on the first day. I'd still go again.

With the beautiful doujinshi and goods being in very-limited supply, it's only natural that supersized crowds would form in the competition of buying them before they're gone. It's a hetic ride, but I'm starting to understand how this can be fun in itself.

The best analogy I can give is once you're inside, you are in something like a long series of river rapids comprised of people. You want to make it to a specific beach (artist table), but finding it is the first big challenge. Your next one is maneuvering through all the conflicting streams. You try to keep yourself afloat and push, but sometimes it's no use and you end up dashed against the rocks (another artist's table that you had very little intention of visiting). Sometimes you can make chance discoveries, and engage in a conversation with the artist if you speak Japanese. Once you do that, you have made the artist's day and have acquired some very nice items. Then it's back to the rapids...
For merchandise swag, the best bet is to get in line overnight for the best items. Fire Emblem was easy enough to grab, but the most expensive wall scroll from Navel sold out right before I got to purchase my items. I was able to get the second poster, so it was still a minor victory. Sometimes, opening up a conversation with the artist can be the best thing to do, as I was able to get the last wall scroll he had of a particular illustration, which was used as a display piece.
