I was just eating turkey leftovers and thinking about how Made in Abyss both represents what I love most about anime(beautiful productions, inspiring, interesting, emotionally captivating characters, imaginative worlds, etc), and what I hate most about anime(the best stuff rarely gets continued or concluded). I guess I can now cross that negative off the list. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

So... we got enough material then?

Or are they gonna drag out some scenes

Wow, that was fast. Though, a literal "To be continued..." wouldn't have been out of place at the end of the first season, so they probably already had the sequel plans mostly sorted out by then.

It doesn't appear to say when the second season is coming, though, so we may have to wait for more of the manga to come out, or something.

The anime finishes at chapter 26. The manga is at chapter 43 now but its in the middle of an arc at the moment. My guess is the new season will adapt till the end of the current arc, so if they hold off 6 months theyll be fine.

Most likely it won't come out until 2019. The studio has other series that they're working on currently and it's not like this was planned in advance anyway. Nanachi's arc boosted the popularity of the series immensely which is probably what made it possible to begin with. I'm just super happy that it's even happening.

Also the manga does need more chapters currently, so that's another reason why 2019 seems more likely.

According to a few people in the industry on twitter, this sequel is based entirely on the reception of season 1, and no plans were underway until they saw how well it was received. Kinema Citrus will be animating the sequel as well, and they are booked through 2018, so we'll probably see this Spring 2019 at the earliest, I would imagine.

OMG yes! This is fantastic news! They'd better adapt the arc I desperately wanted to see in animation beautifully.

Fantastic news and considering it was one of the best anime of the year it definitely deserved a sequel.

The chapters are not equal length. The anime finishes at one chapter into volume 4. That leaves the rest of volume 4, volume 5, and volume 6 left in content, plus chapters that haven't been put into volume bundles. There's plenty for a second season.
