And people complain about other things in anime being big.

They made her look like she does in the manga, that's what. Though she had that dark red hair on the cover of volume two, in later color pages she definitely had that pink hair.
(Also, in random parts of the manga, Taikoubou had bright red hair, too. FujiRyu wasn't too consistent with his color choices.)

Whoever wrote this article needs to fix the names a bit ...
Bunchuu.
Kou Hiko, not Shu Buo. But he's alternatively called Buseiou.
Outenkun, or hyphenated "o".

It's actually a plot point. I would have to spoil the biggest mystery of the story to answer that.

Very excited about this anime. At volume 6 right now in the manga and my worries about the adaptation is mostly how recklessly fast the initial events go. The author is just not super great at the classical epic style he is very clearly trying to imitate.
But he isn't horrible either, and 90s quirky humor makes it easier to enjoy (another element I wonder if they'll keep in). Other than that, the idealistic nature of the themes are bread n' butter shonen so I look forward to the rest. Assuming they complete the adaption, I wouldn't be surprised if they get 50 eps out of this or split it into two neatly contained cours.

I'm impressed they got a Moomin to guest star in this anime.

He's not a guest star. He's actually a regular cast.
Looks better than I expected so far. Was really so surprised there was Outenkun.

Wow, how interesting that Hoshin Engi gets a remake. I wonder if they'll adapt all of the manga...

I'd expect they'd at least do what they did with the new Ushio & Tora anime. there'll probably be "fat" trimmed off, maybe some stuff that's arguably not "fat" as well (like the Western Bakemono War arc that was cut from the adaption of Ushio & Tora), but they'll probably get to the end.

Well... seeing how even Taigong's sage friend (with the super nuclear "computer") and "dark half" TIanjun are here, only a Nuwa could be a more definitive assurance this wants to reach the end of the manga.
But I fail to see the point of trimming away the human part of the conflict (this is supposed to be after all the birth of a new dynasty of chinese rulers). And the epicness and large scale impression of the chinese tale that was preserved in the japanese novel and its manga adaptation will probably be nowhere to be seen. Adieu, big ensemble cast (and adieu, great blond wine-drinking yôkai I loved but whose name escapes me).
Seeing those (nice) drawings, I am now sure I prefer the cover brown haired Daji rather than the later arts pink haired one (but after all, she's this excentric queen who's constantly changing her fashion, so...)
