@mangamuscle As long as those streamers can still reasonably advertise themselves as listening to the fans, I won't worry too much about them surviving. Good karma can help them financially.

The artwork is simple but pleasant. I like the story. It's seems episodic but it's a ongoing story. |

I do not agree with your position, but for argument's sake, boycotting could be an effective way to force Amazon out of the anime industry. The problem is who is going to support a boycott. I would not support it because I am used to watch legal HD anime simulcasts. I am a Prime subscriber, and I plan to pay for Strike as long as they simulcast every season at least 5 shows I care about. That being said, I love Crunchyroll, Funimation and Sentai. If one day they need to ask fans more money for their services in order to try to compete with the Netflixes and Amazons of the world, I would pay up. For example, if tomorrow Crunchyroll decided to start charging $100 a year for their basic service, I would agree to it. I understand that big corporations could hurt traditional anime distributors in the long run, but rather than focusing on trying to get those big corporations out of anime, I want to keep supporting our beloved, traditional anime companies in every way I can. |

I wish I could say the same, since this all boils down to money. You have enough to pay for all streaming services and twice that. But most people do not (I am one of those). That is why many people will no doubt drop AS this fall, because that money could be spent buying a couple blu-ray series (haven't done the exact math). Thing is if amazon drops the double paywall or exits entirely from the anime scene, some other company (hopefully better ot at least average) will take their place, the days when there were shows that went unlicensed for streaming are long over. |

What about Symphogear AXZ, this past season? As for the math, one season of Prime and strike will get you at most one Bluray, while they will likely get 11 or so shows. Maybe have a little doubt that everyone will drop AS in the near future. Last edited by zrnzle500 on Tue Sep 26, 2017 9:57 pm; edited 1 time in total |

We are very close, but we aren't there yet. As an example, what about Symphogear AXZ from the summer season? |

I don't have money to subscribe to all (anime) streaming services; I only subscribe to CR and AS. And I am thinking in dropping AS for this season because CR will probably have most of the shows I really need to simulcast, but I plan to resubscribe in the future. As an anime discs collector it is important to choose wisely the streaming services I pay for.
There is no guarantee that a more fan friendly company will take their place. |

I just picked up Vol. 2 and I'm excited about the anime.

That is a different kind of problem, We are not speaking abour "why license it over here if nobody knows the manga/light novel/smartphone game" to "anime streamer did the numbers and while AXZ is quite popular in the east, numbers in the west do not warrant to continue paying the same/pay more for next installment of said franchise". This is no different from Hyouka, which is quite popular in the east so they asked for more money than it was worth in the west. So yeah, there might be some unlicensed shows, but not because the market is not big enough to license all of them, even shorts get licensed.
Forgive me for being a bargain hunter, but I can get more than one blu-ray for 40 bucks. |

^Considering Amazon has had the funds to bring some previously unlicensed shows (such as Nanoha and actually at least some of Macross), what makes you believe that one of the other streamers will be able to pony up for the most unreasonable licensors? Certainly the market is big enough that everything could be streamed if everyone wanted to, but there are still licensors with less realistic expectations, and Amazon has been able to grease some of the squeakiest wheels. Whatever you think of paying them what the other streamers found undesirable, there are shows that are available streaming that would not be if not for Amazon.
Certainly you can find bargains for Blurays, but will 3 or even 6 get you as many series as you want from Strike? Depends on how many shows Strike gets that you like, and I wouldn't rule out Strike getting enough to do that for enough people. Getting this show helps that. |

You have it backwards, Amazon is only "poisoning the well". Why? Many anime licensors are now thinking "Hey, look, you can ask for a bazillion for the streaming rights of your franchise". Down the line Amazon will crunch the numbers on Nanoha and realize "Gee, it was not worth what they asked for, next time ask for a sensible price". Which is what happened with Hyouka, it took some time but the licensors finally accepted that in the west it was not worth the same. But now everyone (amazon included) will bump into a wall that says "pay our price or go home" for more years in those difficult licenses. But maybe amazon will not be around when that happens.
I can say for sure that I am not one of those people that will think this AS season warrants for me to pay for prime+hidive (that is not a typo, since for my region it carries the AS sentai "exclusives"). |

So? That proves precisely nothing one way or the other. Doubly so given the well known principle that people don't complain when they're happy.
Um, no - we don't have overwhelming proof of anything because we don't have any numbers to compare. Hyperbole isn't evidence.
An assumption, not a fact. Like TasteyCookie you don't seem to grasp the difference between the two. |

Unless you have some inside information you can point too, "they asked too much" is a good working theory for both titles, but you shouldn't be parading it as fact. Simply inserting the word "probably" at the proper place would have been all that was required. As to Symphogear AXZ, if it were merely a matter of money, it is curious that Amazon didn't snap it up. Of course, if they had, the community would have blamed them for "stealing" it from CR, not knowing the alternative outcome. |

How about we all get back on topic and remain civil. We don't need more OT "anime strike is ruining anime" arguments. I also suggest people not misquote others or put words in their mouths which some of you ARE doing. Thank you.

This show seems interesting. I might buy the physical for it. For one reason or another, I tend to like the shows Sentai Filmworks get over Funimation shows. I also have a few issues with Funimation as a company.
