Quote: | The manga imagines that a world without sexual desire would mean that the majority of high-class hotels, bars, restaurants, and brand shops would shut down. |
Yeah, unless I'm going there with someone I want to bang, I might as well sleep, eat, and drink in a dumpster. It's the same tired old pickup artist BS, where people are so obsessed with sex that can't understand that there are people out there who enjoy doing things for reasons other than to facilitate the ol' bump and grind.
Quote: | The man says it would not be appropriate for a woman to have a room with a male friend. |
Why not, if this is a world in which people don't want to have sex? There's plot holes all over the place!

This just implies that only men have sexual desires...
Not to mention a lack of sexual attraction already exists; ever hear of being ace?
(Not that you can't still have sex when you're ace)
The idea of this is so absurd and stupid, not everyone is out to have sex nor is everyone straight.

A manga about universal asexuality could be interesting, but only if done responsibly--and ideally with consultation from an asexual person or network.

While the presentation is crass and far too simplistic, at its core it is an interesting concept. Generally speaking humans are driven more by short term pleasure than long term goals, if sex and masturbation were no longer a thought process, this would probably result in greater abuses within other pleasures, such as drugs.
I do not think much would change though, while the end of sexual desire would reduce some crimes, sex is one of the key ways we acknowledge relationships while also acting as a stability control. Remove it and the incidences of cheating and multiple relationships may increase as a new 'control' behaviour is introduced, something more mundane such as holding hands.

If the human race never had any sexual desires, we would have died out hundreds of thousands of years ago. Sexual desire drives reproduction.
If sexual desire somehow disappeared tomorrow from the human race, it would change society. Sure there would be pairings, but who would want to have sex. Without sexual desire, men would be unable to procreate effectively, or at all. Government would have to facilitate a move to artificial means of procreation, or even cloning.
Kind of agree with the negative commenters. Their future scenario doesn't make sense logically. Society would change, while I don't think it would be for the better, I don't think it would be like what the manga artist and his psychosomatic expert portend. That psychosomatic expert sounds more like a cultist to me, pushing some sort of cult agenda.

There is some valuable truth in here which will get ignored because it's not PC, particularly regarding the man who tells his date to order anything she wants in a fancy restaurant.
The best way to not have a second date, in the heterosexual context, is for a man to be cheap on their first date. Even IF she is a multi-millionaire, if he exhibits cues of frugality... it ends right there.

"Yūki's dermatology clinic website, which also features the manga, notes that such a scenario of world destruction is not targeted at women or men specifically."
A few people having no sex drive isn't the same as everyone having no sex drive. A few people wont cause the collapse of the porn industry, make-up industry, and other industries. I dare say even anime might not be around, or at least Comiket. Those are just the obvious ones. Florists maybe? People be lazier and fatter without the need to hit the gym to attract people? Point of the manga was lots of aspects of our society revolve around sexual desires and trying to get laid.

I strongly defend free speech but their example is weak and seems more like a defense of boys looking at erotic images at school which is not the right place to be doing that. If they had wanted to make a defense of sexual desire they could have made a much better example. I get what they were trying to say though which is that people tend to look at the negatives while forgetting about the positives.

The only problem I see with the comic is that the premise is about everyone losing their sexual desire, but only one gender got zapped in the process. They talk a lot about the possible problems, but since it's still implied the woman the man was with was still attracted to him on some level, it doesn't seem like her sexual desire was affected at all.
Since the writers are known for doing comedic explanations of health problems, the last panel just seemed to set up the gag that the glasses boy just really wanted to read his porn.

Whether you want to admit to it or not, sexual desire is a big motivator. Like the comic says, if the guy has no intention of winning over the girl he'd have little reason to go to such a fancy restaurant. If he was just hanging out with a friend some cheaper place would suffice. Sure you might get some people going to high end restaurants because they're food connoisseurs, but that probably wouldn't be enough to keep the business afloat.
So yeah, the comic isn't saying removing desire would turn everyone into not-so-nice-people or anything, it would just remove a reason for them to try so hard to impress their female companions.

I'm not gonna go into detail here but asexual people do exist and romantic love and sex are two completely different concepts. The guy could still want to impress his date with grand gestures and win her affections without them being sex driven. Now if he just wants a sexual relationship and no romance, there are uhm... other places he could go to better spend his money.

I like how feminist are the ones complaining when this is clearly more rude to men.

I'm not sure why you see a contradiction?

But they aren't. If you take a romantic relationship and all that it entails and remove the sexual aspect of it, it becomes no different from an ordinary friendship.

Common misconception that feminism is only about women when it's [supposed to be] about equality for all genders.

Feminists fight for women's rights, I'm not seeing them fight for men's rights where women have the advantage.
But I'd guess the article just decided to call everyone a feminist instead of using the forbidden, not-safe space compliant, 3 letter acronym, which it really didn't have to because you don't need to be either to complain about this work, but whatever, just shoehorn some random shit in there for good measure.
