WOW, I didn't see this one coming! And here I was wondering what's taking this series so long to release, now I know why and I couldn't be more happy it's getting dubbed. It's one of my favorite shows of 2016, this will be a must buy.

Thank you, Sentai!

I didn't see this when it first came out, I can see it when it gets dubbed.

No idea what the cast list will be for this one, as I originally hoped Funimation would pick it up. So roll the dice.

Ok, I'm impressed. Mostly because it's not a situation where I can say "Why did they dub Flying Witch over Nichijou" because that's Funimation. Fun fact about beating dead horses, they don't go anywhere...

But I can say "Why Flying Witch over Love SNAFU?"

No, wait, I'm aiming too high. Why Flying Witch over... well anything really. Shirobako or Bakuon or the one about the girls and the thing. That thing, you know what I mean. Flying Witch was a well done series that takes the concept of "slice of life" and firmly puts it into park and you can get that from the Japanese track. There's no grand emotions or aspirations you can work into something, no comedy that needs to be translated, no chance for English ham or cheese like Girls Und Panzer or Cross Ange. There's a witch, she flies, end of premise.

Well, there is the "what the crap are they going to do with the father's Tsugaru dialect?" aspect, I suppose. 津軽弁 is different enough that even people the Tōhoku region in general, or elsewhere in Aomori Prefecture, can't necessarily understand it. If AnimEigo's old Coastal [Carolina] Studios were still doing anime, they could try to find a "hoi toider" out on the Outer Banks or something similar. To be accurate, you'd need a similar hyperlocal accent, as opposed to a broad regional generic accent, but how many people would really get it?

The manga went for kind of a real old-fashioned non-rhotic Southern accent that's different that the modern Southern accent spread throughout the region today. Arguably a written translation like subtitles or the manga doesn't get the proper feelings across to an English speaker as well as a truly exceptional dubbing job for this kind of accent, but it's doubtful that they'd do such a spectacular job.

Unlike others, I'm not surprised in the least that this is getting a dub. They had a lot of requests for it on social media, and they really promoted it heavily when they were simulcasting it. Now hopefully it gets a nice LE as well. The artwork is quite lovely.

Well, It would be interested in seeing some scenes dubbed like the Haunted Maze scene even if I wasn't the biggest fan of this series.

I would love it if Tanaka-Kun also got dubbed in the future if possible.

If social media vibe has any merit, I expect them to also dub Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto and Flip Flappers as well.

Considering the number of times their Ask.fm account has posted requests for a Flip Flappers dub, I'd say it's almost a given now. I can't see them posting that repeatedly if they weren't trying to tease it, especially as there are several questions that they've never answered. I'd say Sakamoto has a really good chance too.

Flip Flappers would be awesome I am personally hoping for Tanaka-kun is Always Listless over Sakamoto.
Now that I think about it though wouldn't it be a little early for a Flip Flappers announcement?

Did not see Sentai dubbing this quiet SoL series, they almost never do. Still awesome news! I loved it when it was simulcasting. I think this means we're getting colletors edition, too? This gives me hope for Flip Flappers collectors edition. Tanaka-kun and Sakamoto would be cool to see getting a release this nice, too.

Yeah, it would be. Sentai announces dubs based on season, so right now we're finding out what's getting dubbed from their Spring 2016 lineup. We'll probably find out about a Flip Flappers dub (or lack thereof, which would be silly by Sentai considering its demand) in a few months.

This is not a big surprise to me for two reasons. The show was well received when it was airing, And second because with the fewer titles that Sentai licensed from 2016, Flying Witch is one of their few strong titles from 2016, and it makes financial sense to dub it.

Whoever is surprised by this dub announcement has not been paying attention to Sentai's inability to acquire enough high profile and popular titles in the last 20 months. And like others have mentioned, I hope Flip Flappers also gets a dub.
