Danmachi is without a doubt a fun and exciting show, but it my opinion its overall quality does not deserve an A- grade. Potential is the best thing that this franchise has, but the first season had some cliche characters, the story was often under developed and the production values were solid but not great.
My overall grade for this show is a C+ |

Hestia and her blue boob ribbon were also the most famous aspect of the show with the Japanese fandom, spawning thousands of tribute fanarts like the characters of Kantai Collection and Love Snafu decked in Hestia's signature costume down on Pixiv. The cosplays were just as wacky, from delicate beauties... https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/a0/7e/fe/a07efe4152aa0aa93682a8123f4edf3e.jpg http://i.imgur.com/sf4h0y3.jpg http://i.imgur.com/sf4h0y3.jpg ...to hulking men. http://68.media.tumblr.com/8254b90be6a432083219d968b819eb76/tumblr_noxkudiCB41s91sojo1_500.jpg http://pm1.narvii.com/5948/035e0a9f98c98c2faabd3750cb5fbbb7b09ca6ee_hq.jpg |

Love me some DanMachi! I do agree that A- is being pretty generous, but hey I'm OK with that
Hopefully Sword Oratoria keeps up the excitement and world building established with the original. |

I wanted to like this anime. I like the novel, and the action is done well animated. Unfortunately, everything else is handled awfully, and the focus is on the parts that aren't good of the source material - really, making volume 5 that long (and still somehow making the good moment of Bell overpowering the spoiler[dude with invisibility] boring) and rushing through, even skipping others was pretty much the worst adaptation choice to me.

Same I had only read the first 3 novel since they were only ones legal at the time. I enjoyed them, but the rushed nature of this adaption was really lame. I felt it should have just adapted the first 3. |

I agree with everyone else. I'm a pretty big DanMachi fan (i own all of the translated novels for both the main series and Sword Oratoria as well as a couple volumes of the manga) but I didn't really care for the rushed nature of the anime so I dropped after about 2 episodes.
That being said I did by the premium set, but that was for basically everything but the show itself. Don't really know what that says about me. |

Interesting responses. I'm not familiar with the source material but I thought the series was good, certainly not rushed. Is it a matter of perspective? In my mind, it took Bell forever to get from level 1 to 2 and for an RPG, that's really irritating game design. I'm getting Baldur Gate flashbacks where you get to run away from everything for several hours...
And... on the other hand... his weapon skill went from "noob" to S in no time at all and that's even worse. All this gets explained/excused because his adventure buff is that he's literally a "Gary Stu" harem lead. Great, an in-game cheat. Ok, there's some good battles and some really great character moments with Hestia and Ryu Lion but, honest truth here, there's nothing about Bell that would make me want to see another season and there's even less things about the world that would make me want to see it centered around a different cast. I have the Blu-ray for Luci Christian as Hestia and for that much, I got my money's worth. You know, this series would work a lot better if it actually had a lead that matched the title rather than another clueless LN harem lead whose main/only girl choice is the least interesting one in the bunch. Also didn't care for the "gods only as dungeon masters" aspect as it raises far more questions than offers plot coupons/RPG equivalents. Ok, the more I think about it, the more average this series becomes. It's got to be the ribbon, it's affecting my judgment somehow... |

I disagree with the general sentiment in this thread I watched the anime as it was airing, then picked up the novels in English afterwards and am totally caught up. I did not find the anime adaptation glaringly bad in any way. Was some stuff skipped? Yes, it was covered in the review, and I agree that it wasn't necessary for what the anime wanted to show. I dunno, you don't have to like it, everyone has their own tastes, but I do think this "backlash" against a positive review is a bit much.
@Animegomaniac, in my own estimation, books 6 and 7, which follow what the anime adapted (books 1-5), are huge improvements over the first 5. That's not to say I agree with you, I think the setting, pacing, and worldbuilding were fine in the anime, but book 6 is my favorite book so far, and book 7 is also very good. |

After watching Prison School and Shimoneta and realizing they were both done by JC Staff I'm slowing developing into a big fan of the studio. Now that I know they did this show, which also happened to air during the 2015 year like the other two, so I think I will like this one. It will now go to the top of my watch list. How did I miss these shows when they originally aired? I've been missing out.

I agree. Between Prison School, Danmachi, and Food Wars, I really appreciate how their shows are just fun and fresh. The way they embrace fanservice and put effort into adapting good shows around overtly-ecchi shows is really funny to me, considering how many shows are forced to add dumb, cheap fanservice that clearly don't belong (SukaSuka). In terms of sheer volume of different shows that I've enjoyed from a studio, they're probably near the top for me. |

I agree with the majority here, I read the novels far before the anime aired and my expectations was that the anime would adapt the first 3 novels in 12 episodes (Like it normally was), it IS incredibly rushed and a lot of things that made the LN good was lost in the process, it is not a good adaptation in any way.
However, an anime is still an anime and not a manga, LN or VN, and as an anime it is pretty good. |

If you're meaning something beyond what I refer to in the review, I'd be very interested in hearing you elaborate on this further, as the anime doesn't leave out that much. Frankly, I thought the anime actually improved on the source novels, as Omori's technical writing skills don't number the sharper ones for light novelists. |

With the Sentai/Amazon alliance being made, it would be nice if Amazon could use their deep pockets to negotiate for the Japanese rights holders to let 95% of the Sentai dubs be streamed on Amazon.

well you cant blame the series for that. when it comes to harem series that are based off of light novels, the male leads are always like that and even worse than clueless (speaking to you ichika orimura and touma kamajo). the only exceptions to that rule were DxD's issei and Trinity Seven's Arata . while bell might be dense to some people for wanting to be with someone who both completely uninteresting and out of his league instead of shaking up with hestia whose a better choice for him, at least he's not the shy/girl phobic type ala tenchi and kenshi masaki.
not quite. most dub fans thought some of the cast for trinity seven would have taken the lead for this series. hell if you ask most of them, they would tell you that they would easily though that Brittany aka index/railgun's mikoto mikasa would have been hestia instead of Christian since the new world arc of one piece is in full swing and of course there's the location between the two studios to consider. also i wouldnt necessarily call ep 13 of the dub a complete mess. was slightly inferior compared to the other eps? yea. but not detrimental to the point where switching to the sub is recommended. |
