Odd. I remember reading that it was Shoji Kawamori who designed the original Convoy/Optimus Prime toy.

He was on the design team, but he didn't do the final design and neither did Hideaki Yoke. Battle Convoy was designed by a team consisting of Hiroyuki Obara, Shoji Kawamori and Kohjin Ohno, of which Hiroyuki Obara was credited on the patent.
