Mika did not suddenly start sucking at fighting. He sliced off Juliette's suit's whole arm and a lot of its side, severely damaging it. But Julia is an experimental high mobility suit designed specifically for space combat (have you seen the amount of boosters that thing has?!) it's insanely fast and maneuverable which makes it difficult for Mika to keep a handle on her. This type of enemy has always given Mika issues. In season one he had tons of trouble dealing with Lafter and Galieo due to how fast and maneuverable their suits were and it's the same here.

That is actually scary when thinking about it, Gaelio's Vidar unit is also is such a type of Mobile Suit, tack on that it would be running the Ein based AV system and in a space battle the odds would be stacked against Barbatos to an immense degree, in a "fair fight" Mika would handedly lose 1v1 against the current Gaelio in a space battle.

I didn't think it was weird. Mika, and several other characters, had mentioned how long they have been fighting by the time Julieta's team showed up. IMO Tekkadan were just already exhausted. I think this was one of the considerations Rustal had when he entrusted the handling of Barbatos to Julieta.
By the way, I just realized nobody here thought much about Liza's death. Since he was a Gjallarhorn officer, at one point I thought he'd be handed a mobile suit.
Man, I'm soo going to miss Gundam IBO next season. No new mecha anime to take it's place too.

The thing about Mika and Barbatos is that Julietta is the kind of anime he's weak against. Even as far back as season one he's had problems with fast mobile suits. His fight with Lafter pretty much came to a draw and Kimaris, despite being piloted by Gaelio with no Alaya-Vijnana, also gave the Barbatos a run for its money. The fact is that speed is the ultimate weakness for a close-combat fighter like Mikazuki and the Barbatos. He can't catch up to them and they use hit and run tactics on him which means he can't do anything.
And on the topic of what there will be this Fall, I'm placing my bet and another season of Build Fighters. Island Wars was the bridge between season two and a future season three, so there's no doubt in my mind that this Fall's Gundam is a Build Fighters continuation.

But it was a senseless sacrifice, which was the point. Neil lost himself in his thirst for revenge and died for it. Lyle didn't make that mistake and was willing to let Ali go and only killed him when Ali didn't take that opportunity.
Shino was going to make a decisive strike against their foe but was interfered with. Honestly I think any comparisons to Lockon are super stretching it.

Ah, thanks for the correction. I watched 00 too long ago, and I've yet to rewatch it because I'm still waiting for a US BD release.

Not surprised by such a reaction, Tekkedan also had a similar reaction as his presence didn't feel as big of a mover and shaker as say MacGillis when Liza personally came to greet them.

Lyle was never going to let him go... come on. He knew full well the kind of trash Ali was and knew exactly what he was going to do which is why Ali was dead before he even fully turned around.

Sorry, but you're ignoring several key points that blow massive holes in your argument. All of those season 1 fights were before Mika upped his sync level. I'm also pretty sure that Mika would have killed Gaelio in Kimaris during their first fight except Ein stepped in. Kimaris also should have had roughly equal specs aside from the AV system to Barbatos at the time where as Barbatos Rex is a higher spec suit than the Julia.
Julieta, like Mika, is also a close range fighter. Even if her Julia is fast, it had to come inside Mika's kill range to do anything. If we were talking about some long range load out on a suit that was able to run away and keep distance on Barbatos, that would be a different matter. Amida handily beat Juiletta using a suit that is no way faster than Barbatos.

To be fair I haven't watched IBO since the fight with Hasmal but if he got killed off so easily and no one cared that much about his death he wasn't destined for much beyond that.
And I'm of the mind Shino's death is the result of the writers getting savvy to how he, Laffer, & Azee avoided being killed by Ein in last season. So now they're basically tying up loose ends.

In retrospect, this is partly correctly. What makes the Julia a good match for Barbatos as a mobile suit is not it's speed but is it close range weaponry, specifically its whip swords. Those swords allow her to fend off Mika's blade tail and even use it to her advantage since she can pull him in by tangling them with it, giving her an opening to use her drill to attack his cockpit. I think Juiletta's improvement as a pilot here can be attributed to a few things. First after her battle with Amida she has more experience piloting the Julia where that was her first battle with it. Second is her accepting that she is weak and being able to let go of her pride and stop focusing on proving she's strong and instead focus on her mission. The last thing is Rustal personally asking her to stop Mika. She’s now being driven by the love and respect she holds for her commander, and that’s how she saves her fleet. Of course this only goes so far. Mika still holds the advantage and manages to do far more damage to her then she is to him. Barbatos crushes her arm in the first match then rips it off in the second. He doesn't even need to go for repairs and spends the fights blocking most of her attacks and bashing her around. But that's all she has to do in this situation, keep Mika distracted and hold her own for as long as possible. Which she does well

since i'm a mecha porn addict, i coudnt help but comment on how undetailed with below mediocre animation of almost every, if not all, SPACE battles on IBO(please forgive my grammar). It was like the scenes were animated on a whim or maybe they where animated by some shounen animators, or maybe by the dudes who animated TTGL because of the undetailed scenes and mech frames. Maybe of the time constraints or by the episode director, or maybe by budget issues, who knows.
On a lighter note, it let me think that maybe they were preparing their remaining resources for the last few episodez where i expect it to be well executed with a satisfyimg ending.

you're watching the wrong genre, gundam isn't a super robot series (except for G and SEED). a battle isn't a spectacle, it's abrupt and quick
(yes i know thunderbolt and unicorn exist but keep in mind both are OVA and majority of the battles are showdowns / duels)
