Expected, but still kinda sad. The Switch will likely be the first next-gen console my husband and I will get our hands on, and I'm sure he would've loved to have a RE title of some kind for it. But who knows what could happen; Capcom might change their minds one day.

I blame Nintendo, ask Capcom for a port.

Seems Nintendo still doesn't get it: IT'S THE HARDWARE STUPID! If you can't keep with the current gen specs, then don't expect a lot of third parties to support your system. Just market Switch as a handheld and be done with it.

Well, I certainly hope Capcom changes their mind on this soon.

How? The Switch is just not powerful enough to run it. The best they can do is release a significantly stripped down version of RE7, which I don't think anybody wants. Only option they have is to make a completely brand new game, which costs even more time and money.

Resi 5/6 will be ported at some point because this is capcom we are talking about. Maybe even Revelations 2 as well. Since none of them have been on a Nintendo console before.

I personally believe, that if they need to strip things down, Capcom can at least put some really neat exclusive things to the Switch ver.
Things you can't get with other versions.
Maybe some alternate places.
Maybe make the game play a little different.
Just my two cents.

They are. They're also marketing it as a home console. That's kind of the whole sales pitch.

I know this may come as a shock, but the switch is the only next gen console in existence. Its technically a generation ahead of the ps4 and xbox one, despite the fact that as hardware its inferior to both. The Wii U is actually the console in the same generation as the ps4 and xbox one.

What would even be the point? Neither 3D Revelation, nor the Cube games, nor the GB Color game truly worked out for Capcom, so the audience wouln´t care too much either, even if RE VII got a day and date release. Random "late" port were one of the problems the WiiU had, so no. I don´t want Skyrim either.

I'm kinda just calling them all next-gen consoles, although I understand I'm wrong. They are all in a generation we don't have yet, since we own a Gen 1 XBox 360, a Wii, and a PS3 but nothing beyond that.

And that's the whole problem: The specs just aren't there to compete with home consoles. So what you're left with is Nintendo once again disappointing third parties. Now had they sold this as the successor to the 3DS and priced accordingly, that would make more sense. This whole 2-in-1 approach is a disaster waiting to happen.

Remember Dead Rising for the Wii? That's what you would be getting if they changed their mind.

yeah I don't think anyone wants a watered down port of the game, other wise it would be Dead rising 1 on the Wii all over again,

Hmm. Comparing Dead Rising on the 360 and the Wii is a pretty bad example given one of the features of the game is the shear number of zombies, and they were using different game engines. If anything, the best example to use (at least as a positive) is Silent Hill: Shatter Memories due to its excellent use of lighting compared to other Wii games.
Can Resident Evil 7 run on the Switch? I'd say yes. What has to be sacrificed? Most likely textures and lighting quality. Depending on how large the game cards are, audio would take a hit as well. What is the biggest hurdle? The engine itself, simply because RE Engine not supported as far as we know. If it's Unreal Engine 4 or Unity, then it's a maybe.
Though given one of the biggest draw to Resident Evil 7 is that its VR capabilities, I'd be more interested in an original title on the system.
