Well, 25 billion yen is a guarantee now.

It also already became the highest grossing Japanese movie worldwide.
And while it wasn't certain before, I think it has pretty solid chances of reaching Frozen's 25.48 billions and Titanic's 26.20 billions in Japan.

I like to help myself to a fantasy according to which the unprecedented success of this film hastens its disc release, though I know there can be no such connection.

Impressive as ever, though I can't help but think Your Names extremely long tail is being helped by an almost embarrassing lack of competition from domestic or foreign releases. Shinkai might have asked audiences to stop watching, but it's not like they've had much else to go see.

That's what a majority of anime fans keep wanting. And the exact opposite happens.

It's pretty amazing that the popularity and box offices scores of Your Name is at worldwide levels! Perhaps Makoto Shinkai was so overwhelmed with the sudden rise of the film's worldwide fame that he denounced his work, even going so far as to plead people to not watch it...

What fantasy land are you living in? Lol. You people I swear, only you guys would wish for a film in an industry you want to grow and prosper to fail for no reason beyond your own egotistical opinions of it. I could sort of see this toxic mentality with Frozen, since that wasn't actually a Japanese film, but here we have a non-Ghibli anime film that's actually breaking records and people are still salty about it.

Agreed (but I think that that I will limit myself to just that comment).

Why is that? Seems a pretty popular anime film. I am looking forward to see it myself.
Also, did Shinkai really denounce his film and requested fans not to watch it? Seems awfully like a false narrative, that those who hate the film would create.

Most any anime that manages to catch the attention of the public eye - that is to say, isn't massively popular among anime fans - especially of this paramount, will receive deep seated hate from those anime fans, even if it reflects positively in the anime industry and to Japan's economy.
I think he did say that, but it sounded like reverse psychology to me.
