On other kickstarter-related news, Nekopara Ova just passed the last stretch goal, $500.000, for a full 60 min feature, with still 30 days left of the campaign.

They haven't done a great job with this Kickstarter. For such a massive visual novel, which is very well-received was expecting it to do way better. Seems like the rewards and prices for them weren't able to attract enough backers.

That's nice and all, but where's the Rusalka route?

I'm unfamiliar with Dies Irae, but I have been following its Kickstarter news.
I appreciate its massive size, but can anyone tell me the peculiarities that makes this visual novel so well-received? Every time I read about its premise, I end up imagining something chuunibyou-esque which ends up making it hard for me to take it seriously. Surely there's something other than Germans and supernatural powers, right?
It's characters maybe?

It's Mythology, which includes a whole bunch of Hindu inspired Deities.

No. It's just overhyped to all hell, like Muv-Luv.

Not really, MLA is a great hard sci-fi VN, despite the stupid harem thing.
While 90% of Dies Irae's charm came exactly from that: It's ULTRA chuuni in all the ways possibly imaginable, even in the overcomplicated writing.
The VN is fantastically epic mostly because of this fact. It's like "Rule of Cool" being applied for both JoJo and Gurren Laggan.
Except here it's "Rule of Well Written Chuunige Stuff" (Fortissimo is just at its side, talking about that).

See, this is why it's hard to take seriously. There's always this big untranslated vn that is "so good" you won't believe it and when it gets translated and it's slightly-above-average-if-you're-okay-with-these-problems, we go to the next one. Baldr Sky is also getting a translation, what more "kamige" are left?
Also you can advertise MLA as hard sci-fi, but great sci-fi is about vision not long pages of technobabble and Twizzlers From Hell with the condition of enjoyment largely depending on how much you cared about what happened in 2 really mediocre games before this one.

Wow, and people paid full price for only part of a VN? What a ripoff. You'd think that people would've pulled their funding or something.

There is no cut content. The English version of the game will be the first ever version to contain all the content from both Acta est Fabula and Amantes amentes. There has never been a Rusalka route in any version of the game.

Perhaps a little too late to answer but here's a review from one of the translators.

Nah, you aren't even expecting what you will get from Dies Irae until you actually read it. Please eat your words for a bit, at least until the release, and judge for yourself why is it such a great experience for anyone who have read it so far. It might be a chuunige, but that doesn't mean it's bad at all. It's really clever in its own way also because of that.
The only actual Kamige I've played (meaning, the only one I would consider one, out of all the many VNs I've played so far) would be Umineko tbh... and to some extent YU-NO (any Sci-Fi VN out there is heavily inspired by this one in innumerous ways) and Bengarachou Hakubutsushi (just because sometimes Mareni has a Murakami level of writing for his eroge stuff, and raiL-soft/Liar-soft always has some of the most inventive VNs in the market).
You might call my bullshit here, but I must admit I wouldn't ever select a VN with explicit sex scenes to be Kamige, even if they are written like actual smut masterpieces (like for example France Shoujo).
I still wouldn't consider Dies Irae to be one (even if Amantes Amentes is All Ages AND the superior release), but Amantes Amentes is for sure one of THE best VNs I have ever read, for quality of writing, storytelling, outstanding battles and espectacular characterization alone, you won't be disappointed.

The content of MLA in general is amazing and very well constructed. The whole allternative world-building, political and military themes (btw, one of the best excuses for a harem I have ever seen lmao, like, "all the men died in the war, so now we have these cute bishoujo training in our facilities to be some awesome mecha pilot with advanced military training"... that was some really nice bullshit I approve even if it is in fact bullshit, since it kinda makes sense) and foreshadowing, well executed twists (not always trying to appeal in shock value, which is nice to see) and historical modifications are all there mentioned in detail to be praised in all its might, all of them very well presented.
Not to mention all of the fantastic character development in MLA alone (all of this is excluding completely the first "2" games (more like one with a second half twist). Takeru is one of the better written protagonists you will find in the medium, not even kidding.
MLA has one solid 9/10 with me for very good reasons, and some minor stupid things that kinda ruin part of the experience imo (the harem thing... which also makes sense in the context anyway, as the multiple Takeru's in the past are what makes the Takeru in MLA have profound interactions with any female character he might have been with in the other timelines (the whole causality thing), which is clearly shown in some flashy flashbacks here and there in the story).

I think you forgot the link. Thanks though. I'll just try googling it.

I guess... this explains it?
I might be too old for this, and I might still end up thinking it's stupid, but now it's really piqued my interest. Comparing it with MLA, I can't say I like MLA, but I can see why the fans think it's good.
Thanks danpmss, jl07045, and AsuraTheDestructor. I appreciate the insight.
