While I would like a second season of BBB, I'm not confident the new director will be able to fill Rie Matsumoto's shoes. Even if it matches their best work, it still seems like it will be a step down. It may still be worthwhile in that case, but it is hard to get too hyped for it.

From what I've heard the show deviated from the source material, so will this reconnect or keep going in a different direction? Shame to see that Rie Matsumoto is not returning, I really like the camera angles she uses.

Given the high sales of season 1 discs in Japan, a second season was pretty much assured. I am disappointed, but not entirely surprised, that Rie Matsumoto is not returning. But I want to trust the returning and new staff. I look forward to more BBB awesomeness.

Very happy Rie is gone. She turned an incredible Manga into kyosougiga season 2 for no reason. I hope black and white are not even mentioned.

Black and White were the best parts of the first season. I like Leo and he really needed kids his own age to play off of. Otherwise all he does it get beaten up by Zapp and that gets old.

I disagree. Inclusion of Black and White meant less screentime for other characters, which had as consequence that Chain, Gilbert, K.K. and Zed were less fleshed out. Leo is not that much younger than team members he hangs out with the most, not to mention there is still that alien buddy of his. There is also some misconception that he is your standard MC, when in reality he is more of a narrator with an active role, it is from his point of view we get to see Libra and the world they live in. As such, it is not so important what happens to him (even though that's addressed as well, and even more so in more recent material), as what happens around him.

I don't normally get this excited about announcements like this, but man am I pumped!!! This was one of the best shows to come out in a while (and that's coming from somebody who hates Trigun). The first season really ended just as you were wanting more...

Very, very sad to see Rie not returning. I really loved her vision and directing, it's what kept me glued to the series despite the messy script. The new guy taking over the series composition isn't reassuring either. Both of those new guys are known for their work on stuff like Dagashi Kashi (a slice-of-nothing ever happens that's about candy). They haven't done anything dynamic thus far so I have no clue what they can bring to the table. Perhaps if the show pulls a Noragami and have the second season follow the manga more faithfully then consider me hyped. Thankfully the rest of the staff is coming back , especially the composer, really loved his soundtrack.

^Both worked on the disappointing Tokyo ESP, though the series composition guy was script for that, which indicates less control of the writing than it sounds so I can't really put the writing of Tokyo ESP on him. The director has no such caveat though.

I did not mind the writing in Dagashi Kashi, and I think it had an interesting visual approach. Director Takayanagi has plenty of experience and even worked on Trigun. I of course love Rie Matsumoto's style, but I am not really worried about the change in director.

I think it is possible that the new season will be a more faithful adaptation. And maybe Matsumoto and Furuya are leaving because they wanted to do more original content. If there is enough source material and it is interesting, I prefer a more faithful adaptation.

You mean have a more rushed season with even more animation problems and more arbitrary changes from the source material? No thanks.
Regardless of anyone's opinion of BBB as an adaptation, I enjoyed it heavily outside the final episode due to its much slower pace. If Bones continues that level of fast-paced zaniness then I can't wait for the broadcast dub.

Spoilers brah: there are like 8 main characters and they're all amazing and interesting, but we got to see none of them because black and white hijacked the entire story. There was a whole arc about Zapp, Zed and The Master, but it literally got relegated to a side story so we could watch Black walk through a carnival for no reason. It skipped entire segments about Stephen, Chain, KK, Gilbert and Klaus so we could see this dreadful B/W subplot that made no sense. It was disgusting.
The first season also made up all this trash, like wizards creating the hole to the beyond, and ugh. It wasn't even Kekkai Sensen. It was a mediocre cap show that used some characters from that series.

BBB was one of the best series of recent year, so a second series is much appreciated.
