Only 13? That sucks. Well, more to adapt later on if then if it happens.

Can they even reasonably do this next arc in 13 episodes? because I thought that the election arc was kinda A) a big deal and B)would take quite a while

First Arslan then MHA, D.Gray Man Hallow, and now Food Wars...
I guess this growing list of disappointing episode counts is indicative of the anime bubble right now. There's way too many new anime series each season to have time-slots be occupied by longer shows.

I think 13 episodes would pretty much finish the election arc. The first 8 volumes of the manga took 24 episodes and there are about 5 volumes left of the election arc so it should just about fit.

man, seeing this news really killed my mood. i was fully expecting another 24 ep season. ugh. they better announce another season or something in the last ep of this season 2 lol.
EDIT: does this news rule out a split cour?

I don't think it completely rules out split cours because I remember more than a few shows that ended up being split cours that only had the first cour solicited heading into it, surprising us with a second cour announcement at the end of the finale.

Lets hope its split cour and they announce a 3rd season at the end or within the next few months because else all hope gonna be lost atleast thats how i see it since they have enough material so waitin like 2years for a 3rd season simply makes no sense. Wish we could get some more explanations as to why only 13episodes it would be best if it were just an issue of air slot not bein free or somethin like that and couldnt air more then 13ep due that...

Sadly, I was hoping for another 2 cour...
Oh well, at least we are getting more episodes so that's better than nothing.

Except the trailer clearly shows that S2 goes past the Autumn Elections and into the Stagiaire as you see Souma meet Shinomiya at his restaurant to train.

Somewhat disappointing news, but as long as they confirm at some point that there will be more episodes I'll still be happy.

Well at least MHA confirmed Season 2 right away, and the teaser for it suggested that they will hopefully cover a good chunk of the manga. Leaving me hopeful for the possibility of a third reason around 2018, that could just maybe wrap up with the most recent arc to finish in the manga. I'm most likely getting way to far ahead of myself with predictions however, so don't quote me on anything just yet.
Also ya Arslan and D.Gray Man I'm really honestly shocked at how small their new seasons are. Arslan's new season is what 8 episodes? It just feels like a strange number.
Edit:I meant 2018 not 2017, I was kind of tired when typing this out sorry.

I thought about that, too. For now, though, all we know is that we should expect a 13-episode show.

Much like fellow Shonen Jump title Nisekoi, I guess. 24+ episodes in the first season and roughly half that number in the second one.

This is highly disappointing. Shokugeki no Soma is pretty popular and there's more than enough content for a 2-cour 2nd season. I really do hope this is a split-cour which would make sense considering J.C. Staff has a few series this season.
