Funny. (No, the poster above was not banned, he wrote that himself)

Yeah, this comic got a few chuckles out of me. Lots of nice imagery here. Good visual humor. Welcome to the new comic, I look forward to future developments.

It's hard to believe it's been so long since Nina ended, or began. Hope this one's fun!

This looks very fun so far. Looking forward to reading up on this comic, but I get the feeling that we're intruding on a married couple (both Vice and Luna), however. D:

I'll be frank. I'm not entirely sold on "Vice & Luna" yet. I'll wait to see it for myself.

Alright, this is going to be some unasked for and arguably unnecessary con-cric for the first two pages, but, in short, this fails to hook me.

The premise is pretty easy to poke holes into, and has a distinct "humans suck" vibe that I'm not sure you want to go for, with fairies being responsible for everything good humans have done. How would we never notice fairies hiding among our electronics unless we're all as dumb as sump pumps?

The Kabaneri/Attack on Titan reference at the end of the first page feels incredibly shoehorned in, as if the writer realized that "wait, this is gonna be on an anime website, gotta make an anime joke" and went for the obvious AoT/Kabaneri reference that is already pretty played out. The transition to Hestia on page two doesn't feel like a natural extension of the conversation, it feels more like mandatory anime namedropping like the Kabaneri/AoT bit.

Cats and jokes about them are rather mocked on the Internet as evidence of a generic hipster webcomic. I know that this is likely a reference to your cat Boston, Zac, but this in turn will bring accusations of self-insertion. There is a difference between "Write What You Know" and "Self-Insertion" and I worry this shows signs of the latter.

The artwork has the feel of an Oni Press comic, which is different from the directly anime-inspired look of Nina but it's not bad at all. It's actually quite professional, but it doesn't seem to be the most appropriate style for a comic about fairies.

I have more thoughts, but I'm gonna cut this one short for now until I see more. I hope neither you or Jacob mind.

Sadly, this proves that a columnist is not necessarily the best qualified to write a comic. I'll be the critic here as I and a lot of others loved Anime News Nina and this isn't a good replacement, or even an OK one. The art is competent if non-anime in styling but the script tries too hard to set up a "real" situation contrary to about everyone's knowledge of reality. There is no room for disbelief suspension. My suggestion, if the characters have to be "real" fairies, is that they are the unseen "whispers" in everyone's ear commenting on everything. I think that would fix this, otherwise please choose a different conceptual framework. Since this is just starting, there is no shame in at least one major re-do if the result is superior, maybe two if there is a solid progression toward excellence. Fans will forgive if the comic becomes really good but I and others won't forgive or forget a stinker that is pushed forward and continues only because the writer is staff to the site.

Edit: I have another idea. Since current marketing success with youth-oriented products show that demographic involvement is key, which the popularity of surveys and "matching contests" on this site attest, how about going a month-long or summer-long "contest" for concepts for the new comic submitted by this site's viewership. An alternate, which would work as a "re-do", is to also present at least two other comic concepts with differing art-styles which the viewers would choose from along with a choice of concepts. Vice&Luna could then be "explained" as the first of a few thumb-nail ideas to come. If a majority of viewer choose, the result will limit the amount of discontent with the final "product".

Yeah, this doesn't work for me. I was already bothered by the cynical narration (and then completely unsurprised to see Zac wrote it), but the second page of stilted anime-related dialogue suddenly interrupted with "here comes the mascot". It doesn't flow naturally in any way. I'm not sure where you're going with this, but right now it feels like you're trying to capture the magic of Anime News Nina again, and it's just not working.

The art's great though.

I agree with VIce, At least I don't want to punch the MC of Kabenari in the face every time he starts yelling. And Ikoma was the first guy to see that Biba was evil, just by what he said to Mumei. Also, I'll take Mumei over Mikasa. They're both awesome, but Mumei's hotter. Also, at least in Kabenari it's a somewhat fair fight except the giant Kabane hive.

As for the comic, I'm not sold yet, but I actually want to see Vice and Luna. I doubt the backstory will actually be relevant anyway. If those two are fun, I'll read. But I do miss Nina though...

Well I did get a decent chuckle out of bidet fairy and dead GameBoy fairy, at least. Might as well see where it goes.

Thanks to the folks posting kind comments, I'm glad you see some potential in it. We're aiming for "cute laid-back romantic comedy", something pleasant to click on on Tuesdays.

Originally strip #3 was going to debut alongside these two - it's the close of this little "storyline" and then another one begins in #4. #3 will be up next week. Generally we'll be aiming for multi-strip storylines buffeted by one-offs as we go along.

Hiroki not Takuya: You have my sincere apologies that this strip disappointed you so much, hopefully what we're making can improve in your eyes.

I like it, but I'm mainly just here to demand a crossover with Kawaiikochans at some point.

EDIT: I'm also a tiny bit disappointed that there's nothing at sciencethirst.com. Very Happy
