I know a couple of years ago Right Stuff did a limited release of Macross unedited but, I'm not sure if any of the new Macross sets are unedited or not. Does anyone know if there is an R1 set out that's unedited?

I believe that the older unedited collections and the newer ADV unedited DVDs use the same video master, but can't confirm since I only own the newer ADV versions. This new version includes a dub, and has many extras including Iijima's concert footage, audio commentary and great liner notes provided by super fan Egan Loo. There are also some neat interviews with Mari and fun interviews with the US cast and staff.

Cool thank you very much. Just to clarify, that's the individual set for Macross right? Not the complete Robotech collection that was fairly recently released right?

That is the 7 volume ADV release that came out in 2006 which was the first time that the series was uncut and dubbed. I believe that it comes out fairly close in price to buying the previous 3 set undubbed Animeigo version, although the older set is often found below MSRP since ADV's version was released.

He is talking about this one, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

Not ADVs Protoculture collection, dub only. Which although it has not been recently released, it has showed back up on Best Buy's shelves for some reason, so I can see how you would think that.

And as Randall pointed out not Animeigo subbed only versions 1, 2, 3.

I just wanted to add some links with pictures because there is a gazillion different Macross/Robotech releases and it can get quite confusing. There are about three times more than I just listed in fact. However a good rule of thumb is that if it has the word Robotech in it then it is the edited version. I myself own the newest Macross release(the 7 disc set), and I must say I am very pleased with it. It is well endowed with extras that are quite fascinating, and the show itself has been brightened and cleared up to show Macross in all it's colorful glory. In fact one of the extras they actually do a side by side so you can see the difference between the remastered and original mastered versions. My only complaint comes from the first few episodes, as they can be shaky at times and have some art splotches if you look close. This is almost definitely due to the original masters age and it makes sense that the first episodes would have been the oldest in terms of age to be saved. I haven't seen the other versions in ages but I am sure they are present in them too.

Either way it is a great set and if you get it I hope you enjoy!

Thank you both very much. I hadn't thought that Right Stuff still had copies left. Thank you. Btw, I was talking about: http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=5736433
