Ok. more fighting was removed. This is the second time and the final warning for the thread.
Less self-righteous posturing and ad-hominem attacks will keep this thread open and its participants' posting priveleges retained. |

Kickstarter allowed hentai to be backed. Allowing ecchi is a no-brainer. Kickstarter used to have standards when it came to adult material (I recall that an erotic VN was told it had to be sold as a 'clean' version on KS) but money can always change standards as it seems it has in this case.
I doubt KnJ will ever be sold in bookstores, but it's not like bookstores are even relevant now. |

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see it on shelves, albeit obviously shrunk-wrap. I go into my local bookstore chain (Chapters in Canada) and I can find series that may raise similar ethical qualms every time. Ano-Imo, I Don't Like You At All Big Brother, etc. Granted they aren't quite as bad as Kodomo no Jikan, but they are there nonetheless. And even if KnJ isn't stocked on shelves, I wouldn't be surprised to at least see it available through the bookstore's website. |

Potting the content aside, how many Digital Manga Kickstarter projects actually end up in chain stores (or libraries)? Their Tezuka titles have the biggest mainstream appeal, but when I see them in stores, it's usually the small independent type, and it's rare. I'm actually curious if anyone has seen them in Barnes & Noble or Chapters.

With all this controversy over the fact that a little girl is in love with her own teacher makes me wonder:
Why hasn't there been a loli yuri manga series like this? I mean, if people can enjoy something as loli/teacher relationships, then there is no reason people can enjoy loli/loli relationships, both romantic and sexual. To me, that is more fascinating than KnJ. |

I think I did actually see a Tezuka title when I was at Chapters last week. I didn't pay it much attention though, I only registered his name on the spine. |

Perhaps not a grand statement, but given what happened when the series was originally set to be released I can see why fans especially see it that way. Really I think people focus too much on the narrative surrounding the series rather than the series itself. It's unfortunate that most of the discussion about the series isn't actually about the series. As I said before, it certainly appeals to a niche, but I think it has redeeming qualities. If it didn't I am not sure I would have much interest, at least not as much as I do right now. |

I never called the manga child porn. I do however think that the hug pillows are and that selling them could damage the campaign. This kickstarter already has an uphill battle when it comes to the perception of the work. Whether it is for the fans or for company profit makes no different; this is a public campaign and will be scrutinized by the public. I don't think that the manga should be censored and didn't say that in my post. Just because I will not be buying a product doesn't me I don't think it should be sold. But I do know what if feels like to be a fan who has to defend their hobby against an overwhelming negative outlook. The hug pillows are poking the metaphorical bear. And honestly if a fan wanted something like that hug pillow then there are dozens of places on the internet where they could purchase either a legitimate or cheap duplicate of the pillow. It wasn't a necessary perk for the campaign. Especially when they spend so much space attempting to quell the rumors of the manga's content to non-fans of the manga. |

A hug pillow of a fictional character is not child porn -_- Child porn involves sexual acts with real children and there is none of that here. Hell there isn't even straight up sex in the series itself, it's all just ecchi content. The kickstarter honestly shouldn't have to defend itself, it could be straight up hentai and still legally be sold because it's FICTION and DOESN'T involve REAL people. {Edit: Please refrain from excessive quoting.. The issue is whether people will think it's child porn and what the backlash of that will be, not the legality of it. It honestly felt kind of insulting to have a section insisting on how it wasn't child porn and then follow it up with something that only appealed to someone who found a third grader from the series sexually attractive. It's hard not to just call bullshit on everything they said when you see that. I'm not the only one who's going to see it and react that way or worse. Like I think it's a matter of time when someone's going to do more than just report this to Kickstarter like I did, and how do you think Kickstarter is going to respond to the public backlash that's going to bring about? {Edit: Please refrain from excessive quoting.. Kickstarter is most likely not going to do anything no matter how much fuss people make, because it's legal and its quite clearly going to reach its goal. Report it all you want, but you're not going to censor a legal product other people want. {Edit: Please refrain from excessive quoting.. I edited your post for you. ~ Psycho 101} |

Kickstarter has never limited the products allowed on it purely by what is legal. Remember that card game implying tentacle rape? Or the game that parodied it with tentacle monsters and girls just hanging out that didn't even have anything sexual in it? Both very legal, both either made their goal or looked like they were going to if I recall correctly, and both were taken down. There's a whole list of prohibited items, most of which are legal. The question really is whether they'll decide to classify this particular one under the vaguely defined "offensive material," and that may depend on whether they get much backlash. "You guys are letting people fund child porn" is very, very bad publicity whether or not the statement is true. The reason I reported it was mostly because this is the kind of thing Kickstarter should know about and consider ASAP. If they decide they want to cancel it, it will be best for everyone if they do it sooner rather than later. I'm not calling for a banning of the book, but I'm also not happy about this coming over. Like I can't give money to Digital Manga without feeling gross about it now, so I'm pretty much done with them and trying to get a refund for my KOR pledge. They have the freedom to publish what they want, and you have the freedom to buy what you want, but I have the freedom to distance myself from them. Since you obviously missed the part where they never said that I bolded it for you. What did we say about less self righteous posturing Catsplay? |

Keep wasting your time reporting it. I pledged a large amount to this not because I am a fan of the manga, but because I like to see people like you get your just deserts. This society needs changes and no matter how minor a controversial manga affects that, I will support it.

I'm a bit surprised this is being tried again, but more power to DMP for trying it. Based on some things I've read about it, this series isn't for me, but I understand that others enjoyed this. So I'm happy for them to have another chance at getting this series in English.
