Kind of interesting.
Precendent too, in that both Elfen Lied and Sora no Woto both strongly referenced Gustav Klimt in their opening titles.

To prove that Japanese artists aren't all about big eyed lolis in nonsensical situations, please buy this artbook featuring classic works of art re-imagined to show big eyed lolis in nonsensical situations...

What, so that you can say that these artists are way too lewd and nonsensical instead? This ain't like back then. Drawing nude stuff would definitely brought in waves of questions or to a lesser, mockery.
I think it's great they are doing their own interpretation of classic arts. It's great to look at.

Oh yeah? Geez. Didn't know all Japanese artist could draw is only lolis and nonsense material. I guess stuff like SNK and Death Note is overwhelmed with loli. Or is this an attempt to appeared cynical?

Not a big fan of these interpretations. This art style is just not for me. I'm glad they exist though.

Um... You do know that a lot of western art was inspired by the art of "outsiders", right? Art Nouveau/Modern would probably not exist if not for Japanese Ukiyo-e. It's natural for cultures to "steal" ideas from each other and use them in their own context. And no, western art was never superior to art of "others", so you should probably get off your high horse now.

Well, western artists were really into hairless and almost sexless women looking to the side for a while. Different strokes for different folks.

Prude!
Now let's see Western illustrators take on classic Japanese paintings, if any
