Well shit. I guess I missed that annnouncement. Didn't even know Blame was being adapted. Hopefully it will be streamed in the US. I have been interested in the manga for a while now.

Quite likely, especially since they're making a splash at the SDCC.

Plus, it seems a story that'd be more intriguing in the West than otaku fare.

Then, by all means, pick it up. It is pretty rad. Like enurtsol said, it has a certain Western flair. It looks like '70s/'80s dark SF, with European comics influences (Ridley Scott and his collaborators, as well as Mœbius come to mind). It is very intriguing in both visual and literary form.

I loved the atmosphere, animation style, and music of the 2003 Blame! OVA. It's brevity and incompleteness left me wanting much more, but I hope the full-length movie will keep the look and feel of the original. The mixed feelings I have for Nihei's Knights of Sidonia make me cautiously optimistic at best.

That seems to be true of Nihei's stuff in general. And is probably why Netflix has been pursuing his adaptations so far. It would be nice if it wasn't CG stuff, but I'll take it.
