wow, this almost sounds like a premise for a tv show or anime.

"Across Tokyo, there have been numerous incidents reported where children have been attacking their parents with axes while they slept. All these cases seem to have no connection, but when Detective Kyosuke Nomura digs a little deeper, he may discover a terrifying secret..."

it could work!

Wouldn't that be an interesting anime...

Anyway, I commend the couple of stations that decided to still air Higurashi, though granted I don't enjoy it nearly as much as the first season. In my opinion, however, preempting the episode at all is pretty stupid, even if it did have someone getting killed with an ax in it(which, I'm not sure 12 does).

The second one might just be a copycat of the first. It did happen after the media coverage explosion of the first incident, after all.

Oh thank Oyashiro-sama! This will put an end to the rumours that it would be cancelled.

This whole thing is nuts!
The kids doing this have something wrong with them.
The (so called), adults trying to blame this on a TV show(book, manga, game, ect), also have someting wrong with them.
I would like the facts of how many people in Japan were killed or hurt with axes in the years before the fore mentioned TV shows aired, not just knee-jerk reactions.
Also if I remember right in "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" they used a machete like knife called a "bill hook", unless they call everything over a certain size a axe.

Just for the record, when the station broadcasted it, the opening was modified slightly. They removed the cleaver with blood splattered on it, and replaced the shot with a different image.

Not quite sure if the episode was modified, given we have no way to check until the DVD release...

Axe murders aren't exactly normal, even in America. I imagine the numbers in Japan are miniscule. Seriously, though, what the hell is up with this? Copycat crime? Why in God's name would a teenager want to try and copycat murder their own parent with an axe!? This has really got me confused, especially since both kids reportedly confessed. I can only imagine that there's a link of some kind between the two teens, like some sort of sick murder pact or something.

I'm going to try and follow this, does anyone know any good sites (in English) that would report on the trials for these two cases?
