Great. I hope 2202 is as magnificent as 2199. I also wonder if the new show will also be shown on movie theaters or on television.

Awesome news. I absolutely adore 2199, a remake done right.

Wow this is great news. I didn't actually expect this as it seemed that series ran its natural course.

I found very little to fault on 2199, its just right on many levels. Hopefully this continues that and with an interesting storyline Smile

Now if we can just get a legal release (physical or streaming) in the US for both 2199 and this new series.

Well, just wait for the Hollywood depiction of Starblazers and its result and a 2199 release will happen. Perhaps they dare a PR stunt by releasing it prior to the movie, building up a small hype

2199 did both, but its initial release was in cinemas, and it was very successful doing it that way. I doubt you'll see a departure from that release model. I just hope they delay the TV broadcast a little longer this time so they aren't forced to cut down their production time on the last two chapters by one-third like they did with 2199.

The original Space Battleship Yamato saga spanned three TV series and five movies between 1974 and 1983 (although none of the follow-on productions were planned when the original series was completed). We're a long way from done yet. Three or four more productions are planned for the 2199 incarnation, subsequent to 2202, over an eight year period.

Holy cow! Harutoshi Fukui's take on Yamato. This is going to be interesting to say the least... I still need to finish watching 2199.

Yeah, wasn't expecting Fukui.

The director change is a bit weird but atleast this guy episode directed on 2199.

Yes! Ready for more. 2199 was fantastic.

Quote:
the website does not specify the new series' connection, if any, to the Farewell Space Battleship Yamato film; that film's Japanese title was Saraba Uchū Senkan Yamato - Ai no Senshi-tachi (Farewell Space Farewell Space Battleship Yamato - Warriors of Love).

The Ship's Log interviews do not allude to any other series currently being in development, and the interviews specifically state the series in development is a combination of elements from Saraba Yamato and the Yamato 2 TV series, which are alternate versions of the same story (known as the Comet Empire in the Star Blazers universe). The title is a direct reference.

Going by interviews with Yutaka Izubuchi in the past, where he stated he was only interested in making a prequel OVA about the early war with Gamilas, the most likely scenario is they offered him the role and he turned it down.

I wonder if the Japanese releases will have English Subtitles like 2199 did. That'd be pretty sweet! Very Happy

I'm hoping that 2202 is a sequel, so then whoever ends up licensing 2202 ends up grabbing 2199. Of course, the flipside to that is that something prohibits them from grabbing 2199, so no one goes in for 2202 due to it being a sequel...

The discussion on the earlier article has grown the desire in me to watch 2199 to grow...but it not being licensed for disc release and streaming is what will stop me.
