Oh great. Yet another anime we'll never get to see because of Voyager's incompetence.

I've been waiting for this news ever since 2199 ended!

Depends on how much you're prepared to pay. The Japanese release for 2199 and its movies all had English subtitles on the Blu-Ray, so at this point it's safe to assume that Yamato 2202 Blu-Rays will also have them.

I love the franchise, but i'm not insane about franchise. 2 episodes for 70 us dollars pop is bit much for my wallet.

No franchise is worth 70 bucks for two episodes. Not a single anime ever forged is worth that.

Personally, while I want to see this show, I doubt I'll be willing to pay heaps for a blind buy.
Maybe one day, when I can just blow heaps of money on something, I'll get 2199.

Still plan to watch the series, however it comes out. I was highly impressed by 2199's run. I just hope it doesn't go wild like film did. That was classic odd science Yamato physics at work.

I love SBY 2199, and I hope this new anime is also of high quality.
I strongly disagree with penguintruth. Some anime is worth 70 bucks for 2 episodes. And for me Space Battleship Yamato is one of those.

And it's because of people willing to pay that much for that little that Japanese companies can continue to abuse their consumer base.

Hmm, no anime is worth over $900 to me...I'd like to know why it is worth that much to you?

I grew up watching the original. I was always going to buy 2199 and the same with 2202. I'll probably vacation in Japan to coincide with the first and last chapter.
The best news this morning though was Nobuyoshi Habara's selection as series director. He directed Episodes 9 and 19 of 2199, the latter of which I consider to be the best overall episode of the series in terms of story and production values.

While it's not the price you'd expect to pay here in Australia or in the US for anime, it's still nowhere near $900.
I just did a check of the cost on Amazon Japan, in Australian Dollars, and it comes to $486.64, including shipping that generally gets to metropolitan areas here in 2-3 days. Still much more expensive than anime sells for here, but still not at the $35 per episode Penguintruth is basing solely on the two-episode first volume at retail price. Cost per episode is actually down around A$18.
If you're willing to go for secondhand, Mandarake has the complete set going for Y27,000 (Around A$320) and another set going for Y18,000 (Around A$210). Just search on 2199 Blu-Ray. You might find other copies at various auction sites.

I don't know why you came out with that figure, but I am willing to pay a lot of money for anime I love. It's as simple as that.

Whats the deal with that any ways? I got the first three volumes they put out but volumes 5 and 6 have been delayed since 2014 .
