Okay, so the manager has resigned from the company, and most of the SMAP bandmembers like him enough that they'll resign from Johnny rather than work with another manager. Do I have this right? (That, personally, is pretty admirable. They must really like this guy.)

She must be one damn good manager for these men to bail as fast as they are, probably took better care of them than most managers do. Then again especially if that's the case their next manager may well be the standard corporate tyrant. |

There is also a power struggle within the company. The current president (who is the niece of Johnny himself) is setting up her daughter to be vice president despite SMAP's manager wanting the spot. There have been some public insults thrown the way of the manager by both the president and her daughter and in the past the group has stood behind their manager. I think this, beyond just standing behind their manager, is the members realizing they'll be on their own in the agency if they stick around. Takuya is a huge star in Japan so he probably has the pull the others don't. There's also rumblings of the idea that the manager might up and start her own talent agency in the near future. |

I've heard about the power struggle, but I thought it was over by now since there hasn't been much information about it lately. I think it's best that she starts her own agency with SMAP jumping ship to that agency. |

Wow, that's a pretty interesting story here. It sounds like this woman running SMAP would probably be better at running a record company than Johnny's daughter. (Is that guy really named Johnny, or is it some nickname?)
Or at least, this manager sounds like someone who would care for the artists. |
