A Youkai Watch live action hollywood movie from Dreamworks would be awesome.

I wish gAGE had found such success. The named person usually turns everything he touches into gold.

Did he wake up late, skip washing & just grabbed whatever clothes were at the top of the laundry pile?

I have been enjoying the game, even though it's basically a Pokemon clone. I enjoy wandering around a Japanese town and looking in the nooks and crannies for stuff.

Nintendo seemed to be trying to advertise as much as possible prior to the US release of Yokai Watch, but ultimately it didn't seem to make much of a splash, and reviews seemed a bit lukewarm. I like the concept of the Yokai Watch universe, but the gameplay hasn't really seemed all that interesting to me, so I've passed over it. I wonder if it might just be one of those things that's really popular in Japan, but doesn't quite capture the rest of the world's fancy as much.

Sorry, Level-5. I'm waiting for you to return to the awesome RPGs you were known for that were amazing... Dark Cloud, Dark Chronicle, Rogue Galaxy... And no, White Knight Chronicles is NOT a replacement for Dark Cloud 3, Hino.

I would like to know how it's a Pokemon clone. Aside from being able to form a roster and battle with it (which you do in a lot of games), I don't understand otherwise.

Battles - Everything about the fighting is different from item use, to controls (or lack thereof)
Recruiting Party Members - The methods of recruitment are vastly different.
Story - Completely different concepts

I guess exploration and finding items is the same? But you could say that about hundreds of games.

No offense, but when people claim Yokai Watch as being a Pocket Monsters clone it kind of comes off as them never actually playing/seeing it. YW is more like Shin Megami Tensei in how you recruit yokai through contracts/RNG, you don't 'catch' anything. Not to mention the battle system is more like Jade Cocoon than Pokemon, and the mechanics of battle itself is nothing like Pokemon. Story-wise they're also completely different.

It's ambitious to want Yokai Watch to be a worldwide hit, but sales figures for the game, if they are to be believed, are poor. A bit too poor for me to think they're legit though. The game only sold 20K it's first week, which seems abysmally low, especially considering Xenoblade Chronciles X on the WiiU sold over 200K its first week. I find it hard to believe Yokai was beat out by such a large margin by a WiiU game (note: I love both games, so it's not a dig at either of them)

That being said, I think Level5 need to focus on their Japanese version. Keep it good and I'll be fine importing the Japanese merchandise. My only fear is they might tone down the franchise to make it more "American-friendly", which would kill the appeal of the series in the first place.

I wouldnt call Yokai Watch a Pokemon clone (and this coming from someone who LOVES Pokemon), and I did have a lot of fun playing the game. But to be honest, if I had known from the get-go some of the flaws the game has, I think I would have waited to buy it on sale, if not hope the second game gets brought over and buy that instead. I feel bad to say that I hesitate reccommending the game to friends, especially the ones that like Pokemon. You cant help but compare the two at times, as very different as both series' games are.

I had a real issue with the game's RNG system/thing when it comes to recruiting Yokai on your team. At least in Pokemon, I only had to worry about that for the rare/Legendary Pokemon and if I had the proper Balls to use. [Bear with me; i know catching =/= recruting.] Yokai Watch? I could literally fight one specific common yokai 15+ different times, give it its favorite food item, and STILL not be able to recruit it. This happened to me so often in the game, it drove me nuts and I stopped actively recruting any of them. I wasnt even able to access Fusion until about 3/4ths into the story because of RNG. Don't get me started on the map in the game.
Love how battling works, though. It makes you focus on your six Yokai as a team and not just "Oh I'll just rely on _______ to defeat them and the others are just backups."

And They really are/were hardcore pushing Yokai Watch to be a hit in the States. The toys just now (generally speaking) started to show up at Toys R Us stores, I saw a commercial for the Yokai Watch a few days ago, and I lost count how many times I'd see the "Yo-kai Yo-kaii Yo-kaiiii Watch-chi-chi!!" commercials when I'd randomly have the channel set to Disney Junior (and, understanably, Disney Anime hyper). I'd be sad if Yokai Watch fails in the States (Jibanyan is adorable as heck), but honestly wouldn't be all that surprised. I am the only person I know that has the game, or even know about the series beyond the name, and I have only streetpassed about four people with the game since it came out.

It's stll yet to come to Europe, so who knows, maybe it'll be one of those things that'll be more popular here in Europe then in the US.

I'm at least willing to give it a go once it does.

Lets be honest for a moment, at least in the US the kiddies don't play a 3ds now so much as they do a smartphone or "the kids tablet" which translates into the kids picking up IOS games in place of the 3DS library.

Unless as a parent you already grew up as a console gamer, you probably are just going to give your kid a smartphone/tablet type device and the main source of keeping your kid busy while you are in a super market.

I am not surprised Yokai watch is hard pressed on all fronts when it comes to international market penetration, it also doesn't help that in place of trying to localize the latest version which features AMERICA-land (and probably a ton of game play fixes) Level5 charges up the hard path by "going in order".

It's not even remotely a Pokemon clone. In the slightest.

I hope it does get a bigger push here! I just bought a ton of merch from Target today, and I'd implore anyone who wants to see more to do the same. Merchandise sales help show interest! Not to mention the toys are actually really nicely made and higher quality than most Hasbro toys.

Blame the Yo-Kai

It's clearly not a pokemon rip-off or why else would the same studio/TV channel show it? Nintendo also released it in most countries.

To be entirely fair, VG Chartz (which is usually the only place to find sales stats) is grossly inaccurate a good portion of the time, so it's hard to pinpoint how much it's sold. I noticed that it was easy to find and not very talked-about in the first few weeks of being on sale, and now, a lot of people are talking about it and it's sold out most places I check. I really that's not hard data, but maybe word-of-mouth has helped! We'll only really know when we see whether or not Nintendo decides to keep pushing it here.

I wish Cartoon Network got it instead of Disney XD. Would have been perfect if it came on before or after Pokemon to give it more exposure and boost.
