Is this a case of having to apologize for stealing from a thief? (ib4 piracy isn't theft etc etc)

Twitter nails another poor soul again. You just can't post your whole life to the public and think it is not going to come back to haunt you.

It isn't stated in the article if the work was based off copyrighted material or not.
Edit: NVM, I misread the article.

Whether the doujinshi is theft of intellectual property is an interesting legal question.
I suspect that parody doujinshi does not violate copyright laws, though it may infringe on trademarks, but I would really like to get an opinion on that from somebody who is well versed in Japanese copyright law.
I doubt that I will find such a person here in the forum, but I might be surprised.
@Hameyadea,
The article does say that the doujinshi is based on The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls.

The best part is he's signed under the same label that produces a good chunk of the music for iDOLM@STER and technically an associate of the Bandai Visual company. Either this is just one huge publicity stunt or he's really asking for the blacklist. If people remember what happened to Aya Hirano once she ran afoul of the Lantis label a few years back they'd know what I mean.

And if his facial paralysis is healed by then, laugh weirdly at the author.

From what I've read elsewhere on this site, Japan has no parody protection, and doujinshi is illegal, just not enforced.

With all the news I've been hearing about this guy and all the bad luck he's had, I don't think the thumbnail image of him accurately reflects his actual facial expressions

That does not tell me if a parody doujinshi actually is a violation of copyright law in Japan. How much of the original work does the law protect?
The entire work as a whole is protected, which is what makes piracy illegal. But what about individual characters? Are they protected? If so how close does the doujinshi drawing need to be, and who judges if it really is the same character?
I am having trouble believing that the Japanese government would pay a panel of judges to study a doujinshi and determine if it does violate some copyright.

Honestly I have more of a problem with people attempting to profit off of content created by someone else than I do someone "illegally" downloading the end result. Free fanart is great, but if you want to make money, come up with your own damn stuff.

With the criminal and antidemocratic pact called TPP things can turn much worse, but hopefully authors will not care and comiket can take place without any issue.

Any reason why it cannot be stopped?
