I saw this just a few days ago. I have never wanted a body pillow before until I saw that. UNF! ♥q♥
Also, the show is wonderful so far (although I need to sit down and properly watch from ep 1). I hope they keep up the good work! I love Tezuka, but he definitely had some issues (cough - racism, sexism - cough). He was sadly a product of his time, but others pick up and continue the spirit of his works while generally avoiding how problematic his works could be. I'm glad to see that. |

I don't think Tezuka was racist or sexist so much as he was a product of his time, and often had some racist and sexist writing in his work. As an aside, he didn't create the first shojo manga, but he did help introduce certain things to shojo manga (as he did with a lot of the industry). Also, one can definitely write shojo and still be sexist, lol. While it was common to have some backwards mentality then (regardless of country, etc), that doesn't mean it should be excused (and plenty of others didn't so that's less reason to excuse it). Even Princess Knight isn't perfect, and some of his other works treat his female characters horribly. Heck, Tetsuwan Atom has a sampling of that at times, and also has plenty of the racist depictions (just like Kimba). Is it unfortunate? Yeah. I want to believe in a Tezuka that was smart enough to think beyond that stuff, but it's easy to perpetuate and recreate that imagery and thinking when it's so common around you. Nonetheless, I still love and respect his works! And that's why I'm super glad that they're being continued in the same spirit of what he would have done, just without the parts that he himself were susceptible to. |

Isn't Princess Knight the first shoujo manga? Anyway, I don't agree on what some people consider "racist" or "sexist" in manga (even more recent ones). I read many of Tezuka's works and I never found anything alarming in them. Though-provoking, sure, but not racism or sexism how I intend them. |
