Exciting. I think this gives us perhaps a short glance at the upcoming Steins;Gate 0 anime. Looking forward to that of course.

Wow, this comes out of left field, does this means episode 24 will be completely new? Will it be streamed by Funimation?

The ep was listed on Nico with the description of ep 23 (Beta ver) for the last few days. Also it linked up with the count down happening on the 0 site. So it's not really new information since Steiner posted about it a few days ago.
It's about 10mins of new content and if you've read the beta drama cd manga or the pandora manga it pretty much follows the route change.

Hm, the new content in the episode is sweet.
Now, as I understand, the next episode is the adaptation of Epigraph of the Closed Curve and at least part of the Pandora of Eternal Recurrence, cause they showed the "Amadeus" Kurisu. And it's too fast, even if they compress the material. But in any case, Epigraph Trilogy not fit at all in one episode, so there should be some follow-up.

I think a lot of the Epigraph Trilogy is going into Zero so that'll probably be an intro to it. Hopefully they'll announce something about the Steins;Gate Zero anime at the end.

WOOOAH! Wait, so they were showing the original again and when it got to episode 23 they pulled a fast one to set up Steins;Gate 0? That is the coolest way to set something up!

Man, I thought the ending with Kurisu was brilliant.
So many of these time traveling stories end with having to make some huge sacrifice because the writers weren't able to make their time travel mechanic all make sense, yet still have dramatic conflict. Time travel without limitations means you can fix pretty much anything, so most writers nerf it so that ultimately you can't make big changes, which leads to a tragic sacrifice. Steins;Gate's Kurisu ending managed to do both, and break the trope. Any of the other endings just don't have the same impact, IMO.
So yeah, to me it seems anticlimactic to use an alternate ending.

It's on NicoNico in Japanese, but there's also a fansub out. I'd link it but that's against the rules here. Someone posted a link to it on the Steins;Gate subreddit, though. Also, the first 15 minutes or so is the same; it only changes after Okabe returns from his first attempt to save Kurisu.

Wow, sounds interesting. Hopefully Funi does grab this episode as a lead in to the new anime series.
Now...when will Funi release the movie!!! Been waiting a awhile for that...
Also, no mention of UDON's release of the 3 volume manga series? I'm disappointed...

Yes! I absolutely love this kind of thing. I'm in the extremely small minority that loved Haruhi Suzumiya's "Endless Eight" arc, because it took a well-worn sci-fi concept and made it real. It wasn't just the characters caught in a time loop, it was the audience too, with nobody (at the time) knowing when we'd escape. When done well, time travel stories can tell a really rewarding story, and making the episodes themselves a part of that commendable.
So, yes, Steins;Gate's penultimate episode being a parallel version to set up the new series sounds like it'd work wonders. I really believe that S;G tells such a complete story that all of the various prequels and sequels are unnecessary, but the new game and series at least sound like they're expanding on the story rather than rehashing it like the movie did.

I really liked the movie though. But that was probably mostly because I love Kurisu and she was basically the main character in that film. It really depicted her true feelings for Okabe in a way the series didn't. Funimation needs to get on that release, because watching it in Japanese after seeing the series dubbed just wasn't right.
But yeah! That's such a freaking cool way to set-up Steins;Gate 0, I think it was a really smart move to build hype and all that. It definitely worked for me, and now I really want to find a source to watch this semi-new episode. So what does that mean now, will episode 24 be completely new? If so, I've never heard of anybody doing something like that before, but it's awesome. I'm really excited for new Steins;Gate after all this time.

To me, that movie felt unnecessary. The series was complete at 24 episodes, and it ended on a beautiful note too. It was one of the best harem anime ever (and if you removed the harem element, I think the anime would have only been better for it, but it didn't bother me as much as it did some other people). The special episode (episode 25) was okay, but it was a little odd to leave the show off on that. I thought the movie might fix that. It didn't. It wasn't like The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. Instead, it felt like a movie that had no reason to exist due to the entire premise of the plot. There were a few interesting things, like the... motivation for Okabe's original Hououin Kyouma persona being Kurisu, but that could have been handled so much better.
I was actually really disappointed when I heard that the light novel got cancelled, so this was an excellent bit of news.

That's better. Mayuri slapping Okabe was one of the dumbest out-of-character choices they made in the anime tbh, it is more realistic this way. Looking forward to the new story now.
