You're not missing much, everything that made VC1 interesting is gone in the portable sequel.

8 years eh? The 3rd one is also a quality product that deserves an official (re-)release but the 2nd one nearly curb stomped the series.
PS3 to PC to PS4 is what we call remasters now... Oh well.
The equal quirky Valkyrie Profile series is also deserving of a resurrection.

It will probably just directly be the PC release. If they add anything I will be surprised.

Hmm... The images for Valkyria: Azure Revolution give me much more of a Shining vibe than the traditional Valkyria Chronicles vibe. However, the fact that it is for PS4, and that Atlus now has the potential to bring this over themselves, has me quite interested and excited.
I am eagerly anticipating a trailer that shows off this game, as the universe is so awesome and I just love the whole franchise.
The remaster of the original for PS4, however, has me just as excited. The more opportunities that people have to experience the masterpiece of a game that is the original the better. Hopefully they decide to bring that one over as well. Maybe, like others have said, it could lead to a release of a remastered 2 and 3 as well.
Also, just as a side note, I have nothing against the Shining franchise and would really like to see Shining Resonance get brought over here as last hurrah for the PS3.

Yesss! Super stoked, can't wait for this to come out! Loved the first one. I even enjoyed the second one, though it was not as good. So many great games are coming to the PS4.

A true sequel? This game sounds like less of a sequel than either VC2 or VC3. In fact, the devs are saying to not view it as a VC game but as a separate series.

Unfortunately I'm not sure Square Enix cares at all about that franchise anymore. I guess wait and see what they do once they finally get the development hell FFXV and Kingdom Hearts III projects out.

The different sort of mission based short stage gameplay of the second game eventually grew on me, but man that story and cast, I really don't get the decision to turn it into a more generic sort of school setting with far more archetypal and simplistic characters. It's like it became exactly what people feared the first game would be when it had anime style character models and some themes, but managed to hold back on the worst of what was happening with the anime scene at the time and have a not half bad story and cast.
The third game feels like it took most of what worked with the first and second game and was definitely a step back in the right direction for the franchise, but then it never came out here like a lot of the Sega stuff I kind of wanted to try. There's also no guarantee this makes it over here either the way Sega is nowadays come to think of it. I mean there's no way around it, they make some extremely questionable business decisions nowadays like the whole Pachinko thing and just the last decade or so of Sonic games give or take a couple recent ones though they aren't the only ones obviously with Konami seemingly searching for direction.
Really the only Japanese third party developers that seem to be fairly certain of the direction they want to take and where it seems to be working for them the vast majority of the time lately are Bandai Namco Entertainment (possibly cause they had a head start and lacked a period where they just completely shit the bed year after year in the 2010s) and strangely Square Enix who really seem to have gotten their shit together after sacking Wada and starting to do that thing where they listen and react to what fans actually want via Live Letters and reading feedback, a novel concept that IMO Nintendo got the ball rolling on first with it's Nintendo Direct project.
Other Japanese companies like Konami and Sega seem very much content to just tell gamers what they want lately ("Gamers don't want games like Metroidvania and Shenmue anymore" but yet IGA and Suzuki do Kickstarters and despite producers "wisdom" they smash records and even crash the site in the later's case do to overwhelming interest and demand) and I guess we're going to see how that works out, but given how it went for Square Enix during it's Fabula Nova Crystallis era IMO they do so at their own peril.

Really want to see more of "Azure Revolution." It sounds like they're going for a new take on the series, so hopefully it turns out well. If nothing else, it certainly looks pretty.

The release shown in that link is for the lower-price reissue; the original version was released almost a full year prior.

They confirmed this is a more traditional RPG instead of an SRPG, and it's the same developers as "Shining Resonance," so that makes sense.

It says remaster, which means it is every likely the first game. Which you can get on PC at this point.

Ah good to know. Hopefully the explain it well enough. I would hate for it to just be an excuse to give them bladed weapons rather than firearms. The WWII-esque setting was always one of my favourite things about the originals, so the fact that it looks like it's moving away from that will be slightly disappointing. However, Shining Resonance is a really interesting game and the reviews I read were quite positive, so I'm pretty sure this will be good.

I wonder if they'll add additional content to that remaster coz well...I already have it on my PS3 and it's not bad anyway so I'm content with that. But if it's only improved graphics then I don't think it's necessary for me to get it...
Of course this is a personal opinion and most people who are fans of the franchise would probably get it just to put in their collections or to help get more of the franchise released outside of Japan. For me, I'd do the latter but knowing SEGA recently...it seems quite a stretch as they don't seem to care too much whether the game was a hit or not.
