「白いゾーンが即時荷重だけ乗客の搬出のためのものである。レッドゾーンには停止はありません。」

In keeping with the questionable accuracy of Google Translate, the above was translated as:

I doubt there's a need to be able to translate things on the fly, you could probably just list all the sentences someone might shout at in a megaphone at an airport and just use that.

That built-in smartphone better not have autocorrect on it, or the non-Japanese results could be embarrassing and hilarious. I notice they chose a very simple phrase likely to have few alternate readings. Otherwise, I think this is one of the best tech ideas I've seen in a long time.

Assuming they're using Google technology, the third comes out as "Red John does not stop."
(Darn, I was going to post "Don't tell me which zone is for loading and which is for unloading, you know what this is about!", but Google mangled that even further...) |

At first I was wondering what they would need this for, since the announcements they have are already fine, but for emergencies I could definitely see how this could be useful.
That would probably be good to add as well, pre-recorded messages for certain typical situation, but I think it would still be helpful in case something unexpected comes up. |

I myself tend to think we're getting closer to Wall-E; so dependent on machines that one day we won't even have to walk anymore and completely forget how to do so. |

It is hardly taking their jobs. Given the problem is that they need on-the-fly translation, which too often someone either isn't employed for, or non-available. Also, this thing is in no way capable of complex sentences, and it will still be a long-time before machine-translation is in any way suitable for an official capacity. |

One of the coolest inventions I have seen in a while, public release would be amazing (just not so loud ahaha)

(Y'know, this is the third time this week on forums in general that I've seen some poster nonsensically try to invoke "Wall-E = Fat Americans", when Pixar already retconned the chairs in the original movie to "Bone loss due to years in zero G"? I mean, yeah, I'm sure it's a loss to the Internet now, but hey, it's their movie, they can publicly spin it any way they want. ) Another question is, why not just have already recorded and correctly translated phrases in the bullhorn? Or that what they select on the touch-pad? |

You might just say that with everything a translator translates is stealing his job because now people won't need a translation for that combination of words anymore. Now maybe if someone were to translate all the infinite combinations of words out there and put it in a machine... |
