Haruka's long sleeves and too big uniform are really adorable.
As for the new boys I'm quite interested in Nao.

Why is the movie about the boy's middle school time and not their elementary school time like the first light novel? They could actually make 2 movies, one adapting the first light novel and the second one adapting the second light novel. Also, to be quite honest I never imagined Natsuya would look like this... I thought he would be... cuter? And what about Zaki-chan? I wonder what her character design will be like, I'm pretty sure she's going to be brown-haired and she probably wears ponytails.

Natsuya looking manlier and more handsome than his brother fits when his relationship with Ikuya gets put into context. The staff certainly did it on purpose.

Because fanservice. Middle school boys are just old enough that they might have some muscle. (God, I feel creepy writing that...)

I feel like it's closer to the truth that not many people are fans of very young boys compared to teenage guys (people can sympathize and empathize better with characters closer to their age). It's basically to appeal to a broader audience since movies go into a territory beyond the usual late night anime crowd.

You're right. Maybe the bigness is in anticipation of a growth spurt?
Asahi really looks like a shounen manga MC, with his rumpled uniform, messy red hair, and cocky grin. All that's missing is a blazing background with giant kanjis of encouragement accompanying him.
Now contrast with Kisumi, who looks like a shoujo manga love interest, with his feathery hair and cheeky grin.

Hah, you're completely right, I didn't notice. They are an amusing duo.
And speaking of Kisumi, hopefully he and the remaining noteable characters - Nagisa, Sosuke, Makkou and Rin (and hopefully Rei?) - will get an official introduction on the movie homepage soon too.

Oh thanks, that makes some sense.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. This movie will probably have lots of fan service (this is free! after all), it will be 'weird' to give people elementary school level fan service.

Honestly, I'm not comfortable with Free!'s level of fan service being used on middle school boys. I probably will not watch this, as much as I love the series.

Is the second novel with them in middle school? (I have yet to read it). Because that's what I've heard the movie's based on.
