I love it when the fans come together and celebrate a person's contributions. I'm loving the memorials from the West and across the globe.

Thank you Mr. Iwata for all that you've done for the gaming community. I hope one day Nintendo makes a game that has you in it.

"Nintendo, he pioneered many gaming innovations such as the Nintendo DS and introducing motion control to games with the Nintendo Wii U." SHould just be "Nintendo Wii".

Also, found this somewhere http://www.1101.com/iwata/index.html

Interesting read. Conversations between Itoi and Iwata.

Sure, he made some mistakes along the way, but Satoru Iwata has always based his decisions with one thing in mind: he wanted gaming to be fun for everyone.

"Video games are meant to be just one thing.
Fun.
Fun for everyone."

- Satoru Iwata

Interesting read. Conversations between Itoi and Iwata.

Relatedly, Itoi wrote this in reaction to Iwata's death (found an alternate translation, which I edited to include below):

Quote:
“When I’m parting with a friend, regardless of the circumstances, I find it best to just say, ‘See you later.’ We’ll meet again. After all, we’re friends.

That’s right—nothing unusual about it. I’ll see you later.

You went on a trip far, far away, even though it was planned for many years from now. You wore your best outfit and said 'Sorry for the short notice,’ though you didn’t say it out loud.

You always put yourself last, after you’d finished helping everyone else. You were so generous as a friend that this trip might be your very first selfish act.

I still can’t grasp what’s happened. It feels like I could still get a light-hearted e-mail asking me out to lunch at any moment—after you’ve made sure lunch wouldn’t disrupt my schedule, of course.

You can invite me out whenever you want. I’ll invite you, too.

So for now, let’s plan on meeting again. You can call me up whenever you like, and I’ll give you a call, too. I still have a lot to talk to you about, and if I come up with any particularly good ideas, I’ll let you know.

So let’s meet again.

No–I suppose we’re already meeting. Right here, right now.”

Can't really add much to what so many others have already said. I can only hope his passing was a peaceful one.

These people just know how to tug at the heartstrings.

I'm usually not sad about popular people's passing, but when I read about Iwata, I was really sad and shocked, even if we don't personally know him. He brought us so many memories, so much great childhood we'll bring to our adulthood, and his creation will never ever be forgotten.

RIP Iwata. Thank you for Nintendo. Thank you for everything.
