My copy is on the way, so I will find out soon but thought I would ask any way.
Is the subtitle track still taken directly from the dub script? |

It's worth noting that you don't need to have seen Whisper of the Heart to enjoy this.

This movie was an absolute pleasure to watch. It was charming, fun and somehow always seems to raise a childish sort of happy, giddy feeling within me. We've all probably had fantasies of being whisked away into another world, being saved in the arms of a Prince Charming (or rather, a fine respectful gentleman in this case) and most specially, a happy ending to our story.
I think this movie somehow rouses those nostalgic feelings from our childhood from within us, and of course, those kind of memories of our childhood are probably the best, most beautiful and happiest times. I wish they had continued making movies like this. Oh well. |

I really enjoyed this movie when I watched it for the first time online last year. It's a fun adventure that makes you smile. Sure it's not complex, but not every story has to be to be enjoyable. It is one of the few Ghibli movies I've enjoyed in a long time. I'm definitely buying this next month.

In fact, it's better, as it's not a slice-of-life romance, and doesn't have the old-fogey folk group that Miyazaki wanted to put into Whisper's script. One cannot blame the audience for wanting to see more of Whisper's fantasy sequence with the Baron. (And seeing Haru with cat whiskers keeps bringing up traumatic memories of the kiddy fever-dream acid-trip that was "Catnapped", back when it was one of the few anime on disk we could watch, but....rest assured, this is NOT Catnapped. It's cute, funny, and sane.) |

This was the first ghibli movie that I watched, and I think it's a great gateway for people who haven't watch anime or ghibli's movies. It's charming and funny during the course of all the movie, and I never get tired of it. The ending song is beautiful as well.
I have to watch the dub version, though. I believe I'll love Anne Hathaway as Haru. |

There's two subtitle tracks now - a closed captioning track, and a subtitle track. |

One of my favorite Ghibli movies. I just really enjoy the characters and story, and really didn't want it to end. I find it a little amusing that I have come across more people who have seen The Cat Returns, but haven't seen Whisper of the Heart (love this movie, too!). I wouldn't mind seeing another movie involving the Baron - he is too cool.
I also recommend reading the manga, if you can get a hold of it. They do something a little bit differently in comparison to the movie, but I really liked it. Granted, it made me get teary eyed at one point (because of what they did differently) and I can't watch the movie exactly the same anymore (and I say this in a good way).

Honestly, this is my favorite Ghibli film. In my opinion, it's a great movie all around. I always feel relaxed after I watch it.
It's pretty much exact to the manga it was based on. Aside from the fact that spoiler[Baron threatens to destroy the cat king and his entire kingdom at one point.] |

I feel like this phrase can be used throughout Tim Curry's acting career, or at least the part of his career that we're all aware of. |

The Cat Returns is one of the Ghibli Studio movies that I can watch over and over again and each time I pick out new little details that I hadn't seen before (Whisper of the Heart, Spirited Away, etc.)

The Cat Returns, while charming, did not really appeal to me. For Ghibli movies, I tend to prefer either the slice-of-life stories focused on a female character growing up, or the dramatic fantasy stories. TCR was a little too light-hearted and fluffy for me to really enjoy. Though maybe it's due for another watch.
Whisper of the Heart, on the other hand, ties as my favorite Ghibli movie along with Kiki. Shizuku's struggles really resonated with me the first time I saw it and still does (someone who isn't naturally ambitious or driven, who is initially uncertain of what she wants to do, who lacks confidence and is a harsh critic of her abilities, yet who still has a desire to improve herself and make a commitment towards her future).
I see the world and all the creatures in it I suck 'em dry and spit 'em out like spinach I feel the power - it's growing by the minute And pretty soon you're gonna see me wallow in it I feel good - a special kind of horny Flowers and trees depress and frankly bore me I think I'll spew them all with cyanide saliva Pour me a puke cocktail and take me to the driver! ![]() |

Eww....You remember Tim Curry for THAT? Some remember Dr. Frank N. Furter, some remember Darkness, but they are the rare exceptions who don't remember him for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDincj-FIc ![]() |
