That excuse seems a little flimsy, it's not like Madouse et al. could possibly still be holding out for that big movie deal. Whatever, there'll be audio muxes available online, the disc will just be a shelfwarmer. I just hope 1985 VHD BD isn't also blown like this one.
Also, even if the English version came first to audiences, what script did they actually animate the lipflaps to? I'd imagine the Japanese, just like with Space Dandy. There's also the matter of when the Japanese was recorded; could have been any time, it's just the release that came later. While this is a bit of a bummer, in no way is this a deal breaker to me. I love Blood Lust and will still be buying the blu-ray of this. Especially since the English track was actually the original for this one so I think I'm pretty fine with this.

It's not Madhouse. It's an expat from Madhouse who held a major stake in Urban Vision, and likes being a total dick. He also waited two years until the Azumi movies had been pirated to release them here domestically. But I'm still crossing my fingers for the uncut Highlander anime to come over here. If the Japanese licencor want people to pirate their movie that much that's their problem. I can't see this having a negative affect on the sales though since the movie was originally recorded in English. I do hope they remix it though because the dialogue track on the original DVD was really low.

A *two-for-one deal for R1 fans would've been a real twenty fifteen Halloweenie kinda treat but a newer release on blu from Discotek is still something to look forward to. That and the English dub worked just fine for me. So yeah I'm definitely buying this again. *Sure I would've like to have also been able to hear Megumi Hayashibara as Leila on a domestic release, but there certainly isn't anything to stop me from visiting my favorite go to online store and getting the R2. |

It says it in the article, but I'll still say I was going to say.
The film was dubbed into English a whole year before it received a JP dub, since the first film was far more popular in America. So is it really a big deal? |

As I recall the scuttlebutt from when it was released, the movie was done in English only because the original D voice actor had recently died, and no one would take the part.
I didn't even realize that they'd done a Japanese track later. |

I've got the R2, and without checking for lipflaps, I can at least confirm from memory that there's more dialog in the English version than the Japanese. The English version is basically what you'd expect of a dub of the period -- extra lines for D's wacky hand whenever you can't see its mouth. Edit: Though a couple of the additions were well-done; D's employer's whispered prayers when D arrives at the beginning, for example -- drove home how terrified of dhampirs he was. In other news, the 29th VHD novel is just out in Japan. Still going after all these years. I think Kikuchi's ideas often tend to exceed his abilities as a storyteller, but they really are cool ideas, and Kawajiri's great at bringing out what's awesome in his work. I just noticed that Bloodlust has yet to be released on Blu-Ray in Japan. I wonder if that's a factor in this stand-off.

And they STILL wonder why people pirate things? I mean, honestly, I don't care, I still have my originally released DVD of VHD: Bloodlust so I'm good. Was only going to buy it if it had the Japanese audio, which, I've already watched about 10 years ago.
It's not a big deal to me to hear the Japanese audio. After hearing the English audio first, it's just weird to hear them in Japanese anyway. Besides the audio volume issues I've always had with the movie, it's a great dub in my opinion. |

Well, at least we can confirm on how stubborn/of a jerk the Japanese are for not allowing the Japanese audio outside of Japan.
I do find it interesting that they decided to have an American dub made in the fall of '00 then wait about a year to release it into Japanese. This is because it is extremely rare to get the English dub as the original. For the dub vs. sub debate on this, the "original purists" would probably have to go for the dub. |

Well regardless of the fact that the movie was produced in English first then it was dubbed into Japanese. I personally still find the later more like the VHD movie/OVA that i knew especially that D's hand was voiced by the late Ichiro Nagai, who reprised his role again.
I am keeping my R2 DVD and won't go for the BD release. Perhaps if it gets a BD release in Japan in the future then i'll go for it. But i happy for the fans who didn't get the chance to watch or own the show before to get a 2nd chance. |

English. The film was produced in English, for English-speaking audiences, and was dubbed into Japanese later. This is like getting upset that there's no Japanese dub on the 1986 Transformers Movie DVD. I'd like to have it too, but I'm not going to get all bent out of shape and dismiss this release as total garbage for not including a completely superfluous language option. |
