Source material spoiler[still isn't finished with the Washizu arc, so unless Fukumoto gets a move on there this adaptation looks like it'll also be incomplete. ]

Nitpick: The series began in '96, based off of its ANN Encyclopedia entry and it's Wikipedia entry.

Yeah, what started in 96 (or was it 97) is the Washizu Arc, Akagi started in 1992

Anyway this could be fun if it's handled better than in the movie, hopefully they'll animate Ten next someday (yeah there's no chance it'll ever happen at that point)

According to this: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/アカギ_〜闇に降り立った天才〜

The first publication of a tankoubon was in 1992 under Takeshoubo, so whose facts do you rely on?

What I'd really like to see is a Gambling Emperor Zero anime. Not that I'm complaining about live-action Akagi! I wonder if his nose will be makeup or CGI?

This isn't the first time Akagi is being given the live-action treatment, so there are pictures online showing what the Akagi actor looked like in the various adaptations.

The two home movie adaptations go back to the mid-90s long before the anime was even conceived as a marketing tool, so make of that what you will.

I thought the narrator of Akagi was amazing. On the other hand, I found the narrator of Kaiji to be rather intrusive and annoying.
