A friend of mine was watching the 2nd ending to Naruto Shippuuden and was wondering what this jacket style is called.

At first, I thought it was just a long version of a school uniform jacket (or maybe just a trench coat?) with the sleeves rolled up and the collar extended, but I'm not sure if that particular jacket has a name or not.

He was interested in possibly cosplaying that kind of jacket. I'm not sure if it's for Naruto the character, but he says he's always seen Japanese high school bully/gangster type guys wear it and that he's always had a liking for them.

The convention is in about 5-6 weeks, and he'd like to order (if possible) or maybe even make one before the time arrives. Thanks for your help and any assistance.

That is a variation of Japanese school uniform with a lengthened jacket. It is called chôran and rebellious students often wore chôran.

A Japanese shop mentioned below deals in chôran and its site has a note about overseas delivery. If your friend wants to buy a chôran, it might not be a bad idea to ask the shop about overseas delivery.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I don't read Japanese, so I can't really use that site Anime smallmouth.

However, after some Google searching, I've found out the name of the school uniform as a whole is called a gakuran. So all I need to do is find a site that can make customized gakuran jackets and we're set.

But that's the problem, I'm having trouble finding those right now. All the sites I keep finding are outside of the U.S. Consider the high price to make one (customize, no doubt) plus overseas shipping, and that'll be pretty expensive.

So at this point, if anyone can recommend either a gakuran site or some other kind of tailor-fitted-clothes-making site within the U.S. (or at least one in English and with a reasonable price), that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Many also put patches, symbols, or altered them in some way to show which yakuza clan they support. As many of them will be vying to gain positions in, after, or even during school.

But that has been toned down a lot since the mid 90's. Still around though.

It looks kinda like I would call a "banchou jacket"

see Banchouleomon
I believe there's also the Bancho character in Gate Keepers, but I cannot find any images of him
Haruhi also wears something similar in the SHnY OP.

choran is probably one of the other name or one of the variation given to gakuran probably due to the age of the people that wear it. I believe is the same thing.

banchou is means something like a boss or leader.

I got you covered there. I actually like Gate Keepers and have all the TV series and OAV on DVD, so no need for pictures Razz. Thanks for reminding me about him, though. I completely forgot about that particular aspect in his design.

My roommate is also obsessed with these jackets. I've thought about getting him one as a present but think they are a bit hard to track down. Please keep us informed here if you find a place that has them for a good price.

I think I saw something like that in Azumanga Daioh. Tomo, Kagura and Sakaki wore those during their last sports festival. I think they mentioned they were wearing them for cheerleading purposes. Tenma from School Rumble also wore something similar and she was actually cheerleading. I wonder if it has something to do with that.
