It seems that it can be really hard to do free speech without someone getting offended, even if there is literally nothing to be offended by minus them choosing to be offended.

FOUR-YEAR-OLDS CAN'T EVEN READ BOOKS LONGER THAN TEN PAGES.
Geezus, parents are stupid.

That's not entirely true. The earlier you start kids reading the better.

No, making kids read before they've even developed their motor skills is a huge mistake. My mom used to teach preschool and finds the idea of teaching toddlers to read, utterly ridiculous and unnecessary. There are many more things they need to know before that.
So I'll say it again: four-year-olds can't (or should not) read manga.

Everybody is different. There is no mistake in teaching kids to read. But I guess everyone has a different opinion on its importance.

I dunno about that one.. Pill bottles are considered toddler-safe because toddlers can't read the directions on the lid on how to get them open.

Hey, I learned to read when I was 2 years old and was reading any books I could find around the house by the time I was 4 years old (so my parents hid any books that might have inappropriate subject matter). Like everything else relating to children, it all comes down to the individual.
As for manga, I don't think there are really any that are aimed at kids that young, so odds are the parents who give their 4-year-olds manga probably either consider them as picture books or consider all comic books as children's entertainment.

Wow. I'm curious to know what "zionist" aspect was put in Pokemon? All I know is about the "swastika" being removed a playing card here in the US, but chances are it remained it's respective country. Actually I've seen a few "manji" characters pop in anime, but not many people notice.

This is a weird blanket statement. My son reads comics now (he turned 5 in November, some 80s/90s Spiderman and Archie's Sonic) but has been capable of reading storybooks since he was four.
I didn't teach him how to read other than the alphabet sounds, but he knew all of the alphabet by age 2. He learned organically from me reading him bed time stories every night. His motor skills don't appear to have suffered either. My guess is that the previous poster is the same.
He own's some of Viz's Pokemon manga, which I think is fine for his age.

Most toddlers won't be able to simultaneously push down and twist the cap regardless if they can read it. I struggle to thread it properly at times as an adult, haha.

Well, I say "should not" because I don't think manga's really appropriate for kids that young. As for being able to, I'm sure there are exceptions but they're probably rare. Manga's awfully wordy for kids who aren't even in grade school.
I haven't actually read any of the Pokemon manga......but there are edits in the TV show for a reason. I wouldn't be surprised if the same content is in the books. It's Japanese culture, after all....

....then again, it's VIZ. They edit drawings in manga (WHICH IS JUST WRONG IMHO) even rated 13+.....

A couple of things before I begin. For the moderators, forgive me for necroposting but I've been thinking about how to word this for a long time now so please, don't ban me again. Also, what I'm about to say shouldn't be construed as Islamophobic. That's not my intention or anything like that so please don't be upset with me. Now that that's settled, let me begin.
I think Malaysia's banning of an "Ultraman" manga because a character was called "Allah" was a stupid and idiotic thing to do. It was a move that brings the religion itself into disrepute. Most non-Muslims are going to look at it and think it's dumb and questionable. But,it's not the first time that this happened. Some years before, the Prime Minister of Malaysia had said that the Holocaust was a myth. People who had family members who survived it,would have been very upset and angry, particularly those in the U.S.,where a sizable number of Holocaust survivors live.
I hope Malaysia does better in this arena and doesn't do something like this again, but sadly, they probably will.
