I hope this won't be a short series. The manga is quite amusing at times although each chapter is no more than 10 pages.

Really hope this doesn't have incestuous undertones like almost every other sibling anime I can think of, particularly when they're of the opposite sex.

It doesn't. It's a cute, fun serious and unlike Kirino, Umaru is quite likable.

Vaisaga, that's a relief for me to hear because I otherwise might not bother checking this series out.

The pilot of the manga was great because it was all about Umaru's outrageously childish personality, but the ongoing series resorts to sentimentality too often. It's like over-seasoned food.

She spends most of her time drawn in SD style, looking like a cartoon toddler, so she's impossible to sexualize.

There's some yuri undertones and one of the sister's friends has an obvious crush on the older brother (he's in his 20s) but other than that there's not much in terms of romantic tension.
The siblings do love each other, but in a normal sibling way.

According to a scanlator who did the pilot manga, this rather is a pun on "dried fish" (himono) and "little sister" (imouto). The explanation of the reference wasn't great, but it involves the way Umaru's personality is so different at home than outside.

I just hope the anime is as cute and amusing as the manga...I get at least one good belly laugh with each chapter.
