Similar "tricks" have been going on in Japan for ages, involving various Kamen Rider and Super Sentai toys, primarily the transformation devices.

You can use tape to cover parts of the key portion of Ranger Keys to get the Mobirates to think it's a different key. I'm not sure how they did it, but I know that the WizarDriver (which used a scanning chip) was somehow hacked by switching rings and other things to activate different sounds long before they were officially revealed in the show.

With this, what I'm assuming is that the same chips or chip sets are used for both figures. So using the Amiibo figures with Rumble U would unlock the same thing that the figures with those chips/chip sets do. What I'm more interested in, however, is if using the Rumble U figures in Smash will act as Amiibo. Because if it works one way, it theoretically should work the other as well.

Clearly these figures simply happen to share the same RFID codes. Its probably not an intentional interaction.

Why Nintendo would use the same codes as ones they've already used in a similar way... who knows. Has anyone tried using Skylanders or Disney Infinity figures on Poke Rumble or Amiibo compatible games yet?
