Getting mine tonight at midnight can't wait to play it. Unfortunately I work tomorrow so have to do that but then I have the entire weekend to play away. I would also agree a soft reboot of the series would be great get rid of Ash as a character. Satoshi Tajiri originally envisioned the anime to be a little more mature and much more like the Pokemon Adventure mangas with antagonist's for the regions and an older main character that actually aged as the series went on. The anime producers though wanted Ash to be a 10 year old forever to be a proxy for the kids who watch the show and play the games. The problem is Ash is a freaking retard of a character. I always laugh when he has to pull out a pokedex to check a pokemon he has seen a dozen times or has no idea what attack the other person is using even though he has seen the move a 100 times. Lastly how the hell does his Pikachu, who at this point is at or very near lvl 100, loses to people who just received their starter pokemon. The series should focus on a new character every region and have cameos of past protagonist in the series but we get stuck with Ash for some stupid reason.

Looking forward to watching this Special. I'm also hyped for the ORAS debut! Very Happy
However, it'll be a while before I'll have enough funds to buy the titles.

Tomorrow, huh? Don't really care for it anymore, but my brother's a big Pokémon fanatic, so we'll probably get it this weekend.

I guess all of us here agree that we had enough with that eternally 10 year old Ash after all these 17 years of journey....

I know that the anime creator want to make Ash as the character they will grow up with, but after all these years he never actually gained the title "champion", never completed the Pokedex and returned to "I know nothing" state in each new region. I don't know how they expect the kids to stay with him...

It might have been true after the 3rd generation, but honestly, XY is pretty good and doesn't insult my intelligence, unlike BW for example. Ash/Satoshi is a face of the franchise, just like Pikachu, so changing it might alienate the audience at this point.

Not to say that we don't need another anime - if only Origins was 1 or 2-cour show instead of 4-ep miniseries, it would rock. Or Adventures manga adaptation...

For the last time, he's NOT "eternally 10 year old"! That one line in BW was either a retcon that got forgotten since then, or just a case of unreliable narrator. During the first three (and arguably 4th as well) generations you can see character growth, he definitely matured as a trainer and even grown physically. He's not Bart Simpson or Nobi Nobita who's exact same character now and at the beginning of the series.

While that might be partially true... each generation serves as a reboot of sorts, attracting new audience. A lot of those who watched the first generation have kids now who watch the current ones.

They didn't "expect" it. It actually happened. In Japan, at least.
I see some older fans dislike it, but a lot of younger fans appreciate the fact that he has a history, yet feels completely new to them.

And I can understand the complaints about Pikachu losing or Satoshi/Ash feeling like he "reset" himself during the beginning of the BW season, but I honestly don't get that vibe from any other season, including XY. Even when Pikachu loses, it's usually to a strong opponent, like a gym leader.

The hate for Satoshi is exclusive to older western fans who possibly feel insecure that they are watching a children's show and perhaps want some kind of adult protagonist, or perhaps are not as exposed to him as people in Japan are. In Japan he's one of the many faces of the franchise, in no small part given to his amazing voice actress Rica Matsumoto and her many talents from singing a lot of the show's vocals and appearances. Obviously Americans miss out on all of the marketing for the series.

Complaining about Satoshi in Pokemon to me seems like complaining that Naruto was the star of Naruto all the way through, or Luffy is still the star of One Piece. The complaints about him not aging just make me scratch my head though. Generally the only time people age in long running series is if there's a time-skip, and outside of that the characters stay the same age for decades. Surely American cartoons are like this too aren't they? South Park and the Simpsons and the like? I've been watching Detective Conan since I was a child and despite growing up myself he's still a little kid. Do people honestly expect realistic time-flow in cartoons?

which is why their comparing it to the simpsons. over a decade long and none of the characters aged at all. its the reason why i stopped watching simpsons so many years ago. and if nothing is done soon, even this series will bite the dust until they actually make satoshi older than 10 years old.
