I'm glad. At first I was worried this wouldn't make it, but people really cracked down at the last minute to get this funded. I can't wait to see it!

They have enough for a pilot, right? They still need to sell it to a network. With networks calling foul on all non-comedy animation, good luck. |

They apparently already have at least one network lined up in Europe, and considering this is a Canadian production, I don't think they're going to have a difficult time in this country at all. The US isn't their prime target. |

I can see Adult Swim taking interest in a series like this. If we can depend on any network in the US to take a risk on new animation, it's defiantly them.

A good day for animation Kickstarters! This sounds great; I hope they can make a series out of it. Maybe networks might take interest in something that already has a fanbase and name recognition?
It's possible! The premise reminds me a bit of Vandread, but more dystopian. |

When does Adult Swim take risks in animation, exactly? They only seem interested in Tim and Eric-style shows, as well as reruns of old animated sitcoms like Family Guy and Bob's Burgers. They've yet to produce an actual action/drama focused series. -Stuart Smith |

The Venture Brothers may be generally a comedy, but it has plenty of action, and a fair amount of drama. It is also an ongoing, serialized story.
I have no idea if Cartoon Network/Adult Swim would be willing to risk producing Urbance (or something like it), but as they are the only network on US television willing to even air action cartoons for adults these days, they would probably be the first network most people would think of to give it a chance Syfy would be my second guess. But who knows? If the quality's there and the fanbase of backers is apparent, I could even see AMC or a premium channel showing interest... |

This show is getting investment from Canada and Europe, not the United States. Any US network that gets it will probably pick it up as an acquisition.

Good point. America now has Netflix, Amazon Streaming, Yahoo and Hulu all looking for something "different." Netflix has already both acquired foreign anime and produced their own animated show, Bojack Horseman (a comedy, but considering that they like to tout Knights of Sidonia as a "Netflix Original" I don't think they'd rule out action/drama). Hulu has produced a few animated shows, including 2 seasons of The Awesomes, a superhero parody that leans more than a bit on the standard superhero action/drama side. (It's actually really good, and was renewed for another season!). I'm not sure what Amazon and Yahoo are doing with their video streaming brand, but Amazon let's people vote for their favorite pilots, so popular opinion can literally get a whole season funded there. So we have an animated pilot produced with a built in audience who are literally invested in the show's success through Kickstarter. They're planning for a Canadian and European release, but there are so many video streaming services looking for interesting content they could get an American company interested, too. If this works out, imagine the possibilities for aspiring animators, writers and producers! |
