This sounds interesting. I hope we get an American release, because I really liked the barefoot gen movie. It may not have been as good as Grave of the Fire Flies, but it still sent a strong message in my opinion.

Oh god no... I bawled so hard watching Barefoot Gen long ago (but still not as hard as Grave of the Fireflies). I wonder how a live-action would fare?

Wow, I had liked Barefoot Gen so very much more than Grave of the Fireflies.
I have no desire to watch it in a live adaptation however, it was hard enough to see animated for me, I cried through much of it, as did my 12 year old daughter who watched it with me.
Seeing that live would be too much for me, I try to avoid seeing those images even as I know they happen, but I don't like the sick feeling it leaves in my stomach. I had bad dreams forever after seeing the children manipulated and harmed in Blood Diamonds, which, while different than Barefoot Gen, was another movie (not anime) about a war and effects it had on people. It was so disturbing to me, I try to not see too much like it.

Aww. I hope they have re-airings of this so that I can see it when I get to Japan two weeks later. I've only read a little bit of the Barefoot Gen manga but I adored it. I really want to see this.

I found the animated adaptation one of the worst since it omitted a lot of crucial plot and character developement of the manga. Much worse than Grave of the Fireflies.
I hope the live-action movie will fare better.
