from octobers newtype-usa There is a preview of an anime called cutie honey. Well as what it looks like right now I think it sucks.

It just looks too dumb for my taste.

What do you think about it I might change my mind.

I've never fully understood the term live action does that mean a movie is going to be made instead of a series? Confused

I thought "live-action" meant that real-live persons played the parts as opposed to animated persons / animation (kind of like the "live-action" dragonball z movie I've been hearing nowadays)...........not sure though... Smile

Live action means that real people will play the roles on real sets, etc. Period.

And Cutie Honey's been around for a long while. I used to see previews for it on tapes I'd buy in like...'95? Those movies had probably been out in Japan at least 2 years before I could have gotten ahold of them, putting Cutie Honey in at around '93? I dunno, I think that's close, though.

Just look in the Encyclopedia.

Go Nagai made Cutey Honey way back. Apparently Anno's directing the live-action film adaptation, and I wouldn't call it "slipping" in the least.

Cutey Honey tv show came out in '73. What you saw was the Cutey Honey "sequel" in the form of an oav. Plus there's a shoujo series and a cgi series in Japan. Trailer's up at www.cutiehoney.com . And as far as I'm concerned, nothing can be dumber than Evangelion. Go Nagai is much more innovative and entertaining than that Anno-ying f*ck.

So not all of the anime's newtype talks about are new but old classics?

Go Nagai is a person, not a show.

And Gatsu has reasons as to why he thinks Evangelion is dumb, and will more than likely give out some abriged version (maybe). it's always nice to read Smile

hellsing: Just imagine Neo saying, "I give up" and then killing off Trinity in the Matrix trilogy, and you can understand why I hate Evangelion. Anyway, recommended Go Nagai anime includes Devil Lady and Shin Cutey Honey from ADV. I'd also mention Devil Man if it wasn't only available in dubbed form. (Of course you might prefer dubs, but take it from me that Devil Man's dub sucks.)

Anime hyper I actually think that if neo did that, it'd be pretty cool. Major shocker! Anime hyper

You may think that it sucks, but you haven't seen it, you've just read a two page preview in a magazine, so you are really in no position to say Anno's work is slipping. You didn't even know that it was live action when you read the article. I'm not trying to say this is gonna be great, because I don't know either, but just that before you start saying things suck and are too dumb for you, you should see them.

I'm kind of with Gatsu in being royally unimpressed with Anno's work as a whole, but there is a big gap between directing a live action remake of a popular 70's anime and trying to create a new definition of a whole genre of anime.

Besides, how hard can it be to not screw up Cutie Honey?
