I don't read Hunter x Hunter but I know a lot if people love it and the author so I really hope Togashi gets well soon. Back pain is nothing to joke about.

It's possible, but you have to remember that he's not a young guy. He's almost 50 years old, and the manga industry is pretty infamous for being incredibly tough on authors' health. Not to mention he's writing in a weekly magazine, which means he has to draw up around 20 pages a week (uh...when he doesn't take hiatuses, anyway). He was complaining of health problems like chest pain as far back as when he was working on Yu Yu Hakusho, so it might be that he's seriously worried about his health.
I can't judge, either, though, since I don't know what he's thinking. Oh well, just hope the hiatus doesn't last too long.

Hunter x Hunter on Hiatus? Must be a day that ends in "Y".

Huh, I actually won't slam Togashi for this one, since an actual reason is given this time. Usually when he's on break from laziness, the magazine just skips out on giving any sort of explanation.

The series is great, but it's this reason that I've stopped reading it. It doesn't do any good to worry about it so I've moved on to other series, hopefully in time Togashi will be able to get well enough to complete the series in one fell swoop. Once he's done with Hunter x Hunter, he should just retire. It's not like he's not set being married to Takeuchi.

I love Hunter x Hunter but it's hard to care anymore at this point about where the series is currently which the anime is also caught up to now pretty much. The hiatus situation isn't getting any better and no steps are being taken to make sure it does and it's kind of just been that way for half a decade now. It's unsurprisingly back on constant hiatus after only the tiniest little bit of work again. Personally I think he should just find some way to end it or pass the torch to a new handpicked artist he can advise from home as it's crystal clear that it's pretty much all but impossible for him to get any work done anymore. Save everyone the grief and hand wringing including himself and just go out on a high note as a manga-ka. Get assistants if you need to too help you finish or dictate your ideas to someone else to put them into manga form, but yeah you basically owe it to your audience at this point to figure something out already.
Of course they'll never do this cause of stubborn Japanese face saving stuff so I pretty much expect the series to fall back into the abyss for a few years again. Just dumb....

The man has given us nearly 50 volumes of manga.
If you like his work I think that you should not be too harsh with him.
I really enjoyed YuYu Hakusho and am seriously considerring reading it for a second time. I am grateful to Yoshihiro Togashi for creating it and giving me the chance to read it.
For reasons that I do not understand I was not able to get very interested in Hunter x Hunter when I read the first volume. But I do intend to try reading it again later.
Whether Mr. Togashi is really sick or is just taking a break I wish him well.
