I was completely ecstatic when I first heard this until I heard that the game is not compatible with the current 3DS which means I'd have to get the New 3DS.

Then it doesn't matter, now does it? You'll be no worse off than if the "New" 3DS didn't exist at all and a Xenoblade port was impossible.

I imagine there will be more games in the future. The Game Boy Color launched with three titles, with only one of those games being specific to the GBC hardware. You gotta start somewhere.
Meanwhile, I'm thinking about this port of Xenoblade. I love the game, but I'm hoping that they streamline it for the New 3DS. There was at least 100 hours of gameplay in the original game. The optional quests added to the playtime, but it turns out that playing them as they came up was much more advantageous than not. All they need to do is cut out about half of the quests and tweak the amount of experience you acquire otherwise. Also, improve the rate at which characters form relationships, too.

I am seriously not gonna be able to plop down the money for another handheld anytime soon. Never got to play the original either (since I don't own anything that could actually play it). This sucks.
I mean, with DSi it wasn't all that bad, and not all games needed its hardware for it after it released, but with the clear differences in hardware here I'm worried I got the short end of the stick.

I'm wondering what he said about the different themes to download. Is that Japan only?

Why not port it to Wii U? This 3DS port makes the game look worse than on the Wii...an HD remake for Wii U would do it so much more justice. On top of that, this is somewhat of a backstab to current 3DS owners (especially new ones). I think I would rather get a new Vita and P4G rather than a new 3DS and xenoblade--it just seems like a pricy upgrade if you ask me
